Dremora & Volkihar: Build and Discussion

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 6:44 pm

As i have done with all previous builds this thread will consist of my thoughts on how to best replicate these races/classes in Skyrim whether for RP or general fun gameplay. This time i will show my way of making a Dremora and a Volkihar Vampire

Dremora
Race: Dunmer
Skill Trees: Conjuration, Destruction, Heavy Armor(Warrior), Smithing/Enchanting, 1H/2H weaponry
RP Items: Daedric Artifacts, Daedric Armor/Weapons, Bound Weapons
Stone: Atronach, Lord
Shout: Fire Breath
Discussion: The Dunmer Race is the most similar to Dremora (for those without mods) as you only have to darken the skin and add red warpaint. Use Lots of Fire and Shock magic, along with Conjuration for everything. Summoning Atronachs or even other Dremora fits the idea quite well. Now there are Dremora Mages and Dremora Warriors so chose Smithing or Enchanting to fit with that (or both). Make Daedric Armor for Warriors or enchant black robes for Mages. Do all the Daedric Quests, be really evil, and you have the most bad@ss creature ever to make a Dragon cry.

Volkihar
Race: Any (Nord for RP)
Skill Trees: Destruction, Sneak, Illusion, 1H, Heavy Armor/Light Armor (Otional)
RP Items: Frost Magic, Frost Cloak, Vampirism(duh)
Stone: Lord, Atronach, Lady, Shadow, Serpent
Shout: Aura Whisper, Throw Voice, Frost Breath, Ice Form, Become Ethereal
Discussion: For those who do not know the Volkihar are the original strand of vampirism that inhabits Skyrim, although they are thought to be extinct since the 3rd era. You get to play as a Nordic strain of the Cyrodill Vampire which has adopted the Clan Name of Volkihar. They are very focused on Ice and magic so play accordingly and the RP will feel perfect. The Ice Form and Frost Breath shouts are supposedly powers the Volkihar actually had so aim for those. Try this for sure because i can say from exp that it is really fun to play.

I created a Dremora Lord character, named Dremora Lord. He was the one that fetched the Sigil stone. Lord Dagon was less than pleased, so he cast the DL into the mortal World and stripped him from most of his powers.

In order to be allowed to return to the relm of Oblivion, he must forego a pilgrimage to each of the Daedric shrines, and performe their request.

I thought about the Dunmer, because they are dark blue, but they are too short. I chose the Altmer and made them as dark as possible using the slider, complexion, and dirt. Dremora can be several colors, like blue, purple or red. I think it even states that Markys and Valkins come in yellow and orange as well.

Still, he looked real close. I used the full face warpaint, not the skull, but the one that has several triangle patterns.

The skills were

Heavy Armor
Smithing - Dremora are master craftsmen. They create their own Armor and weapons, after all.
1H or 2H - I used 2H and the Greatsword.
Conjuration
Destruction

doing the mainquest doesn't really fit out of a rp view. it does fit out of a general fun view, though.

using ice magic is sadly very, very crippling in skyrim, since even foxes seem to have frost resistance

That is no big deal. Out of 16 characters and over 1200 hrs logged, I have yet to advance the MQ past meeting the Graybeards.

You only have to get past killing 1 dragon and then yu are done with the MQ. After that all the dragons appear and you can get souls for yur shouts

Well said. If I want dragons, I just trigger them and do my own thing. Otherwise I don't even see the Jarl. Maybe one day I will forego the MQ. That day will probably be sometime in 2014 after the GOTY.

I started two of the DL characters and got sidetracked with other characters. I never finished the pilgrimage. Nor have I ever found all of the shrines. I may start a new. Now that I have the PC, there is a mod that allows you to play as a Marky character. I may look into that.

Thank you OP, for rekindling the inspiration.
