Driving to Las Vegas

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 4:50 am

My mother lives in Las Vegas and I live in Long Beach, CA and since my Mother was diagnosed in June 2010 I have been driving 1-2 times a month to Las Vegas. Just finished another drive and will be here for a few days. So while driving to Las Vegas I looked out the car and wondered how the game is going to look compared to the real area. Nothing like driving through Primm, passing the sign for Goodsprings, or the last stretch of road with Las Vegas laid out before me to think of scenic New Vegas and the Mojove wasteland. While FO3 had the subways and power stations FNV in the Mojave wasteland will have plenty of mines (active and abandoned) and communication sites to use. Can't wait for FNV to play since I really enjoyed the fallout series. Also it should help take my mind off things when it arrives.

It's probably going to be minimized just like fallout 3 was. :(

I am sure it will be but does not mean it won't look awesome :)

Every fallout game from now on will squeeze locations closer together to fit.

It will be minimized to fit in most of the interesting aspects of Nevada around Las Vegas I would suspect
(and it is set in the Fallout World so things are bound to look different and have things where they shouldn't be and yet still have some signature setting of Vegas like in DC)

No but that's the way it's going to be. Unless they go back to they way the originals are. And we know that's not going to happen. If they don't make them closer then we won't have them at all.

In the end it's not going to bother me.

I'm looking forward to Hoover Dam more than anything, it was one of my favorite places that I saw on my all-too-brief stay in Las Vegas...

OP: You should take a few photos on your next trip and put them in a Photobucket account for us to look at.... When the game releases we can compare to the in game locations.

In the original games, the map was spread out, because it could be. There was an increased sense of distance as you Fast Traveled from one settlement to another. However in a game where you normally can walk in "real time" to an area, I would not want to spend several game days walking to a location. That would not be a fun game.

Foreshortening is a good thing really. If you want to see what I am talking about, you need to have Morrowind. Then you can download a Tamriel Rebuilt map and walk around that to the various towns that they have started. It really svcks to have to walk in a game so far to get anywhere. Or, load up Daggerfall and walk between towns.

True but personally I kinda liked that about Morrowind, but i'm also an avid explorer and like to walk around lol

Sorry about your Mom tazntaylr. I hope the game gives you some solace from the tough time you're going through.

Gotta say, the landmarks are there, which will be interesting. I loved DC because I had been there many times, and I recognized alot of the places.

they have to squeeze the map together not because their lazy but for performance reasons in fallout 1&2 they didn't have to worry about that as everything was 2d which doesn't take as much preformance as 3d so they kind of have to. But yeah Vegas will probably look alot alike but with different versions of real landmarks
