DST ends... for Americans (we're slow)

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 2:37 pm

Just remembered right now as i was about to fall asleep. I would've woken up an hour earlier than absolutely necessary! :o

So let last to the stupid party that is totally out of sync with the rest of the world finally arrives (well, i guess it should be leaves since it is ending).

I leave you with this

Odd, often USA been 2-3 weeks earlier than the rest of the world when it comes to this, but not this time.

We started daylight savings a little while ago, 9pm and the sun has just about gone down, there's still a little bit of light in the west.

You're telling me. I've never valued an hour of sleep as much as I do now. :snoring:

Blah, I it feel strange to be awake during the time change and notice the alarm clock and the computer clock are different by one hour.

i live in Arizona so I don't have to worry about it. However, it does mess up my tv programming schedule.

that is unless your employers schedule you to work late coming in and work early coming out so that you end up with several hours less free time over the occurance of day light savings :(

That's hilarous!

Personally, I think DST is ridiculous and useless. Except perhaps for people who like catching bugs after work.

We started about a month and a half ago, I think DST is fantastic! Nothing beats long summer days.

EDIT: Just watched the video, now I'm horribly confused.

I guess what you think of it depends how close to the pole you live. I think it's great to have since I have mostly lived at around 45 degrees in one direction or the other.

Some people want it all year round here. Obviously people who neither live in more northerly areas nor who have to get up early...

We had ours last week today. It felt like a shorter day regardless  I'm happy about the longer nights :D

I dislike DST, namely because I'm now not sure what time I need to be at work. <_<

The days are now colder and darker, got to love winter time. At least it makes for a good excuse to sit inside and play video games.

I wouldn't mind it being year-round. I just want the stupid completely unsynchronized clock changing to stop.

Watch the clip DEFRON linked in the op, it actually makes slightly less sense than that.

Personally I think they should get rid of daylight savings time. It was indeed useful when farming was much bigger than today, but I would say we have strayed from that, and if you are a farmer you tend to have methods to work at nighttime. The only purpose it has for me, is annoying me. :)

The usual excuse is that it makes the days "longer": it was pretty soul-destroying that, just as I got to the time of year when it'd actually be light at the time I was leaving for work, I'd be plunged back into darkness again. "It prevents accidents", comes the justification: not sure how plunging the (usually involuntary) early risers back into dark mornings is an accident-preventer, and come the spring, it'll be light when people leave for home regardless. My suspicion is it's the usual bunch of puritans who just want to make people's lives that bit worse.
