Dual Wield and Hotkeying thread...

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 12:12 pm

As far as I know first hand.

---My dualwielding favorite/hotkey situation only equips 1 weapon.

---You can do the shift + hotkey or shift + equip... it will not operate properly.

---If you have 2 weapons equipped through inventory... switch to a bow, or spelll

---you can not switch back to two weapons only 1... HOWEVER / UNLESSS

--- your bow is the item equipped to go to dualwield... hit the bow hot key and your 2 swords equip..

--- switching to spell negates this positive cycle.

----somewhere in there hotkeys unbind for me...

SO.

Who knows the skinny... is it fixable are they working on it... is this a modders fix with a new UI?

details people. Let us live and prosper in our ventures of skyrim dual wielding.!

Zero replies in nearly 2 months. Is this because it's already been covered in another thread that I'm not finding through the search function? I have the same questions about setting up dual-wield weapons and spells.

Try this - no guarantee though.

Make sure you make them favorite, hotkey/number the sword. Now, make their hands go out - you know the move when they go into their combat stance - and hit the hotkey number twice. That works for my mage with spells - she dual wields chain lightning. Also works with healing spells, fire spells, etc. for me - as long as they're hotkeyed.

I'm on the PC, don't know if that makes a difference.

Good luck.

PS: If I only hit they key/number once, I only get the spell on one hand. I used to have problems with hot key assignments disappearing, but not recently.

This works fine. The problem starts when you're switching between a bow, two swords and a spell. Somewhere in the process the swords un-hotkey themselves...

I've read that this only happens when you're using the same type of sword in both hands (two weapons at one hotkey). The solution was to either find another sword, or enchant the ones you have and give them different names. This way they'll be on different hotkeys and equiping a spell won't mess everything up. I tried this and it works, but unfortunately one hotkey is wasted

The hotkeys work very well, in my opinion, for bow, spells, 2 handed, and sword and shield. I'm playing a sword and board character right now that uses destruction dual casting for ranged damage and I can switch between all the various things I need to (including candlelight spell for the darker dungeons mod I'm using) with ease. But I now am at the point where I'm high level and have perk points to spare, so I'm putting them into dual wielding. I'd like to be able to switch to that occasionally, just put my shield away a draw my dagger for higher damage output if I'm not worried about being killed, and it's impossible to do via hotkeys alone. I couldn't imagine trying to play a dual wield character as it is currently if I also needed to recast candlelight every 60 seconds, I'd go nuts. I'm pretty sure the available hotkey mods allow you to hotkey gear sets, but I don't see that being as flexible or convenient as the current system.

The solution I'm thinking of (and I'll give it a try once the CK is released) would be to keep the hotkeys as they are now, but make it so that if you click the mouse while holding the hotkey, it assigns the item to the hand that you clicked with. So to swap a shield out for a dagger, you'd hold the dagger hotkey, right click, then release. It'd also let you quickly assign heal to your right hand, rather than swapping it for your shield, so that you could continue to block while healing.

I haven't tried two swords yet on all my characters. On my characters I do switch between the bow and spells, and a 2H without problems.

I'll try the two swords next time I have them and see what happens. I remember on one of my characters (shortly after Sky was released) that the hotkey assignment kept disappearing - and if my memory serves me correctly, it was on dual-wielding swords - but I have to try and make sure. Memory isn't what it used to be lol.

My thief-type characters have this problem as well if they use dual daggers in addition to a bow and also want to cast a spell (Candlelight, Heal, etc.), as it un-equips one of the daggers in the process and often removes their Favorites number as well.

@Imp:

Given that hot-keys work off the numbers I'm not sure that can be done, since all the mouse controls is which hand gets used, however it might be possible with SKSE and some creative scripting.
