Dual Wield Build

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 9:46 am

I tried making an assassin build but it bored me a bit so in addition to my heavy armor sword and shield char I want to make a light armor, dual wield class.

Skills:
Smithing
- For crafting bows, armor, etc
One Handed
- For the obvious dual wielding weapons
Light Armor
- Mobility and stamina
Enchanting
- Obvious
Archery
- Long distance. Dual Wield cant work all the time.

Also, how good is Nightingale armor? And, are their katanas in game?

Smithing will create more melee weapon than bows.

The only katanas I've seen in the game are unique or legendary weapons, but yes, they exist. Nightengale armor is extremely satisfying to wear, albeit based solely upon its amazing appearance. Unfortunately, it is statistically bested by the armors obtainable through the Dark Brotherhood questline. Though, I'm sure you'll find that the armor you smith and enchant yourself will be far superior.

Also, I completely agree with your suggested build, after having played both a warrior and assassin myself.

What is your point? You still create stronger bows than you can find. I also don't understand the point of this thread. That's a pretty standard build. If you want to take it one step further, you need to invest into Alteration for Dragonhide, Paralyze and the Resists.

Honestly, if you go Alteration, you can run around naked vs physical resists (not talking about Mage Armor 3 either). The only reason to bother with smithing is just so that you'll have blank gear that you can add two enchants to, half of which will be resists. 80% is the max physical reduction without using block, and Dragonhide gives it to you.

Are you going to allocate health and stamina increases at a 1:1 ratio? I think that's what I'd do. But, I think I'd feel tempted to go for a goal of 400 stamina, requiring me to sacrifice health increases. DW power attacks are beastly.

Melee is a good backup for Archers, but melee fighters don't really need to go into Archery.

If you absolutely want to use light armor, that is your choice, and it does give you some Stamina perks, but IMO you should go with heavy armor for a DW build. My main reason for saying this is because you can't block when DW, meaning your armor is going to have to soak up the damage. Light Armor does not do this nearly as well early on in the game. Now, once you increase smithing skill and light armor skill, you will not be at such a disadvantage. I realize that the point of DW is crazy damage output and you intend to kill things faster than you kill them, but in the early part of the game it is difficult to do a lot of damage even with dual wielding. I am speaking from experience as I did a DW, light armor, sneak build. I did fine until about level 12. Sneaking and doing stealth kills in dungeons is still easy, but in the open I die often, since I rarely can sneak up on Sabre Cats and Bandits now, and they do more damage than I do at this point even with DW. Case in point, when going up to

I might got 1:1 health and stamina, but I'm not the best at surviving right now. And Kyuuen are you sure? I feel that I would have a ton of trouble long range using two swords. Maybe I could replace Archery with sneak?

I guess that Heavy would be better, but I'm pretty set on trying out light armor.

You don't need Archery perks, but you do need a bow. Unless you enjoy playing on Novice or investing into the Block tree.

Light Armor has better perks. Heavy just prevents less staggers. Both end up at the physical reduction cap. If you go Alteration, the gap between the two is mostly gone (even though you could also use the same spells while in heavy).

For a dual-wielding build, I strongly suggest going light armor, solely based upon the stamina regen perk. Stamina, due the the power of dual-wielding power attacks, is extremely important.

Nightingale is awesome.

there are Katana's, fairly rare, I have 3, one being a 2 hander daedric artifact.

TBH if you run enchanting and smithing together (even better with alchemy) you can improve anything by more than 4x it's original value. Since I don't like the look of Daedric, I'm using banded iron armor with the 3 crafting skills it's still horribly OP at level 47 on expert, so wear/use whatever the hell you like it really makes no difference.
