A Dumb Question for a Dumb Person

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 6:46 am

Forgive me if the answer has been under my nose this entire time, but I can't seem to find a simple answer. When is the construction set coming out for Skyrim so I can modify the game? Does it allow us to share with console gamers?

We're in the second week of January. Has it been delayed? You see why I would ask such a question when everywhere says "January of 2012."

They said January. They didnt specify when in January. They can leave it till the 31st if they want and still be "on time".

What do you mean by, "share with console gamers?". Giving us poor guys on the PS3 a chance to invade whiteruns with Giants? Fix quests and bugs? Create Mods? Oh that would be a dream for me

My friend owns an xbox, so it would be cool if I could modify the game to fix any issues he has and perhaps put in my own easter eggs in the process.

That won't happen since it crossing your agreements with both MS and Sony due to it being unauthorized 3rd party programs.

As for the rest its in January, just hope Bethesda hasn't adopted Valve time

I think, as it's a patch's content, it may be more appropriate to say we hope they haven't adopted Soon?

I'm a PC player, but mods on any of the consoles would be cool. Not sure how that would be managed though? It's pretty simple on a PC to install or remove mods, but on a console? There would have to be some kinda manager to do that I'm guessing. Should probably really be part of the Xbox/PS3 itself and not the game - the Xbox/PS3 would provide a service to the game (or any game) to hook into. Bit like App stores or Steam.

Would be cool, but doubt anything like this happening for a while. An interesting link:

Turns out if you have the devkit version of the Xbox you can install and run mods (from reading that article). Pretty cool that the overall architecture would support mods, least on a 360.

It can happen but MS and Sony wont let it happen. It would mean lower profits on DLC and the introduction of custom content that may or may not work or worse could even be malicious. That leaves them open to litigation.

All it actually requires is a main menu "mods" option thats leads to a page to activate and deactivate mods. The game data is pretty much identical between PC and 360. Dont know so much about PS3 though, that may be a technical hurdle.

I imagine it should be handled the same for PS3 as well, as Bethesda uses their own custom esm/esp file type system( although anything using SKSE or a similar script enhancer wouldn't be compatible with the consoles.) It's really a matter of Sony and Microsoft.

Ok, so January passed by, and after looking around it doesn't seem like we're going to get a creation kit any time soon, huh?

He can.

And people, I don't know if anyone remembers but, the fan interview is a good example of Beth's "soon" (about 4 months after the predicted month.)

So I should create a second thread when there is one ready to be continued upon? I thought that was taboo in these forums.

oh there are layers upon layers of taboos here, you'd be much better off hiding under a rock and not saying a thing.

anyway, from what I understand, the official word is "soon". If we're lucky, that means next week, I'll hazard a guess that it'll be out around the end of the month.
