dungeon water flicker

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 8:52 am

when exploring dungeons, or other similar areas that contain water, the region will randomly flicker. it would appear the flicker is water, because sometimes when it lasts a little longer the game reacts like i'm under-water in the sense that i can sortof "float" around as if swimming. this has been a bug i've encountered since release, and was wondering what the fix is?

i hope you guys can understand what i mean despite the poor explanation =P

i be tired of this bug :(

/e so it might be caused by disabling vsync? ...if thats the case, my options are mouse lag or this irritating flicker?

If you enable Vsync the problem is likely to go away. Vsync will cap your frame rate at 60 FPS. Skyrim seems to have issues when the FPS goes higher than 60.

To enable Vsync browse to the location on your computer where your Skyrim save game files are such as:

C:\Users\[Your Username here]\Documents\My Games\Skyrim

Make a backup copy of skyrim.ini and put it somewhere you will remember.

Open the file skyrim.ini. using any text editor and In the 'Display' section, look for a line that reads:

iPresentInterval=1

When the value of this variable is 1 then Vsync is enabled. When it is 0 it is disabled. If you don't see this line in Skyrim.ini then add it to the end of the 'Display' section of the Skyrim.ini file. Save the the skyrim.ini file and run Skyrim.

Pros When Vsync Enabled:
  • No more water flicker
  • Less objects flying around at the speed of light when you walk near them or open doors and whatnot
  • No weird clanking sounds (usually heard in small interior cells) like objects being knocked around when they aren't
Cons When Vsync Enabled
  • For me, I have a bit of cursor lag when navigating menus. It's not real bad, but noticable.
Hope this helps.

thats the main problem though, thats why i have vsync disabled. its sloppy, and it causes mouse lag. mouse is 1:1 with it disabled, but it causes those issues. but being that the mouse is obviously a main component, the delay feeling is really irritating

guess i was hopin for a fix, not that... but what can ya do.. bethesda @_@

I get flickering water occasionally after fast travel with V sync never changed from its native setting of 1(on).
Never had it indoors my thoughts were a dirty grid load because I can say fast travel away and fast travel back...sometimes it fixes it other times entering a cell fixes it.
But water can flicker regardless of v sync settings....I should also add that I am using no texture mods and I have not noticed it happen since I applied the HD texture pack.
U grids to 7
