Dungeons of Dredmor

Post » Sun Dec 04, 2011 6:02 pm

I got Dungeons of Dredmor the other day after seeing a few videos about it on Youtube, and holy crap does it svck away time like no other. For those who don't know about it, it's basically a roguelike dungeon crawler with a lot of Monty Python-esque humor. It has to be one of the most addicting games I've ever played. Just messing with different builds can svck away hours. As with most roguelikes, it's insanely difficult (to the point of pure blind rage), but that's part of the addiction factor since the point isn't to beat the game, it's just to see how far you get.

In any case, I just thought I'd make this thread to see who else here has tried it, and what you all think of it. Talk about the game, post your build, do whatever!

Picked it up yesterday or earlier today, can't remember, and have been playing it in spurts since I got it. Haven't made it past level 4 yet due to stupid mistakes/evil enemies playing with traps.

Yeah, level 4 is my wall so far too. Furthest I've gotten so far is with a Promethean magic build with vampirism thrown in because I felt like it. It was surprisingly effective, actually. Promethean magic has very strong AOE spells, and vampirism allowed me to heal on the fly just by hitting stuff with my staff or from one of the many corpses my Fireball spell created. Even with crappy armor it was a pretty big survivability boost.

My latest build has dropped Vampirism in favor of Archaeology though. Traps were the real weakness of my previous build (and what finally killed me on my previous build) since Vampirism characters can't use food to heal, and Archaeology should help with that. Oh, and the ability to recharge anvils is nice too.

A friend of mine has been talking about this game since it was in beta. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to try it out for myself yet. Is it actually any good?

Heh, well it's only $5 in the first place. For a game that's on the Terraria/Minecraft level of addiction, that's well worth it.
