Easy but Fun Character Build Help

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 3:53 pm

Hello everyone,

I'd like to start off by saying I'm pretty new to these forums. Anyway, I have a bit of a problem. The problem is I can't decide what to play as in Skyrim. I've made tons of characters since I got this game for Christmas. Since I keep starting over I haven't been able to enjoy Skyrim at all because I keep doing the same beginning quests over and over again.

So what I want to know is what's a good character build for someone like me who doesn't really care if he's playing a Mage, Warrior, or Thief. I want something pretty easy to play, but something that's fun because when I played a Warrior I just got so bored of it. So does anyone have any suggestions?

I just thought about an RPG I really enjoyed in the past (Baldur's Gate) and modeled a character after my favorite class in that game (Cleric).

My character this go, btw I still havn't completed the game. A Khajiit thief with the name Dar ' Bahdeshi. Dar for thief for rp purposes http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Khajiit_Names.
Anyway I've decided to go dual wield and with the help of forum contributors and suggestions, decided to go armsman in one hand to get savage strike and dual savegry, nothing in bladesman. To go smithing with steel and improve enchanted armor and thats it, Decided I want illusion, sneak of course, a little of pick pocket, a little on archery, and may go into alchemy. I'm strictly using the daedric blade mehrunes and the valdr's lucky dagger in the other hand, hope there isn't a disarm that loses them or else I have to re load a previous save. Then I'm only using improved thieves gear and brotherhood gear, later to use ancient db gear and nightingale. Other than that I'm set. What do you think.

A cleric build seems interesting. I'll consider playing one, but I will wait for some more suggestions. Also how did you level your Health/Magicka/Stamina?

I don't really know if I want to play another sneak focused character, but thanks for the suggestion.

the sad thing is i'm not sure I want to either, but i've done everything twice already. This time sounds more original to me though.

Right now I'm loosely following a formula that for every 4 points I put into Health and Stam, I'll put one into Magic. I say loose because I sometimes I'll break from this if I feel like I need a little more of one attribute; but I always have more stamina and health than I do magic.

I take the magic-reduction perks on Alteration and Restoration, and I never have problems with mana. Aside from this, I'm focusing Alchemy so I always have a few potions on hand if something gets low ;)

Alright thanks, I'm still debating over this build or if I should wait for more suggestions.

Ok so it's between the Cleric build and a Tank Archer build which I found on the Xbox Forums.

I saw some videos on YouTube of the Tank Archer and it seems pretty damn awesome.

Doesn't get more easy and fun than 2handed warrior.

Well, not exactly easy, but it is fun. Use a warhammer. And be an Orc. Just be brutal.

I had a quick question.

I find playing a Mage hard because I constantly run out of magicka and die, but I thought maybe if I used a Staff of Fireballs and heavy armor I could survive and deal a lot of damage. So do you think this would be a good idea?

If not I think I will just make a Tank Archer.

Easy and fun is hard to accommodate, because easy will often lead to boring. How about something quite different, a healer maybe? He will never harm any creature himself, so take a companion and possibly also a war dog, keep him healed with restoration, and buffed with illusion spells. Use calm and fear to control crowds. Take alteration as well for some protection, and for more crowd control spells. Use Marked for Death or Disarm shouts to debuff opponents. So the basic plan:

Restoration
Illusion
Alteration
Enchanting
Speech (to take the diplomatic route whenever possible).

That seems like a very interesting class and I think I may just try it out, but in case I don't like it does anyone have any other suggestions?

Here is a build I came up with today for a Dunmer Nightblade. That is going to be my next character. It should be fun and challenging, I hope but still fairly easy to play, since it is not gimped in any way. The perks in parenthesis are in case I decide to begin pursuing necromancy later in life . . .

Archery 8 points
Overdraw (5)
Eagle Eye
Steady Hand (1)
Power Shot

One Handed 5 points
Armsman (5)

Alchemy 8 points
Alchemist (5)
Physician
Benefactor
Poisoner

Illusion 9 points
Novice
Hypnotic Gaze, Aspect of Terror, Rage, Master of the Mind
Animage, Kindred Mage, Quiet Casting
Dual Casting

Conjuration 4 (7) points
Novice, Mystic Binding, Soul Stealer, Oblivion Binding
(Necromancy, Dark Souls and Twin Souls)

Restoration 5 (6) points
Novice, Regeneration (Necromage)
Respite
Apprentice
Ward Absorb

Enchanting 8 points
Enchanter (5)
Insightful Enchanter
Corpus Enchanter
Extra Effect

This will take the Dunmer through level 48 (52 with the Necromancer perks). No perks to decrease magicka cost in particular schools of magic since he will use enchant to get free casting (first time I have done that). No perks in smithing because he can fortify that with enchant and alchemy, and he can smith gear before enchanting it for maximum benefit.

Other perks to consider for later levels are Sneak to Backstab or Deadly Aim; either Light or Heavy Armor to the weightless perk (three or four perks), Destruction to Impact (only because dark elves are known to use destruction magic); Pickpocket to increase carrying capacity; more Archery perks; more One-handed perks.

How about a comprimise. A mage aswell as a warrior. Choose a warrior race, Nord, Orc, Redguard but go conjuration on it. The bound battleaxe is a weapon not to underestimate espoecially in the hands of a warrior race. Perks on it are very usefull AND you get the perks from twohanders making it even more powerfull.
if thats not ok for you, try making full illusionist, only illusion spells, frenzy calm your way through dungeons watch the enemies kill each other and pick of the last man standing however you see fit.

Having a blast as a Baldur's Gate style cleric (see signature). Basically I'm a heavily armored mace wielding shield bearing buff machine capable of insane heals and a special sort of hatred toward undead.

I play with lots of restrictions, some of which include staying true to alignment (chaotic good in my case), prioritizing quests at temples, and so on.

Sword & Board with Summons

Set and forget it with 2 Dremoras running around wrecking stuff along with a Companion and you charging around with your Shield knocking around everything and never running out of Stamina.

You can easily hit the cap with Light Armor (esp with Smithing Perks suggested). Light Armor gives you 50% more Stamina regeneration, which is very very helpful for Blocking and for offense. You shouldn't be getting hit anyways considering you have 2 summons + a companion helping tank for you. Heavy Armor is way overrated. It does not offer anything special. You are using Dragonscale armor, which is easy to make, and a Daedric weapon.

Oh ok, thanks. Would this work with a two-handed weapon instead of a sword and a shield?

Just curious why you took restoration dual casting on your build, rather than the regeneration perk?
