People are reporting higher bow damage since 1.5, but if you have used most of your perks on Archery then it's possible that it is the correct damage. Have you improved the bow through smithing?

Base Damage + Enchantment(s) + Overdraw Level 5 Perk (Archery) + Deadly Aim (Sneak).

It can add up. :)

Perhaps the perks now effect the base damage of the bow and the arrow instead of just the bow.

Bow damage is messed up. It's pretty insane that my 75 bow skill with no perks almost does the same damage as my fully perked 1h skill & fully upgraded chillrend.
Somehow though I think it was intentional just to show off the new ranged kill cams. It'll be patched along with an "oops" I reckon.

Skyrim 1.5
Archery Level 100

Ebony Bow Damage 97

---------------------------------
If I employ both of the following:
Hide Bracers of Major Archery : Bows do 25% more damage
Krosis (light armor): Lockpicking, Archery, and Alchemy are 20% stronger
Total Ebony Bow Damage: 117

Your choice of arrows will further increase the damage.

This sounds like a known conflict with more crafting mod.

so not sure if it has any relevance.

when i first started playing skyrim, all vanilla. I had 100 smith and not 100 enchant at the time. I made 2 glass bows(which im still using) that have way higher damage then any other glass bow i have been able to create since.

the originals (at this point with skills) are saying 364 damage on them, while any new ones i make only have like 225 or so. it wouldnt be a real problem but I have 2 enchantments that are only 15 damage each. I made 2 new bows with 35? damage per the 2 enchantments, but the damage on the bow says its way lower.

There do seem to be some strange things happening but the one you describe may not be one of them. In 1.5, the arrow damage has been added to the bow damage so going from 17 to 30 would be normal if you have a 13 damage arrow selected. If you change the type of arrow, you'll see the difference.

Has anyone found a wiki that gives accurate leveling increases? Damage particularly. Since I posted in the other thread I have been trying to find one. That thread calls the increases in damage massive, which I don't see. But damage increases don't add up right. I have a Lengendary Glass Bow with 50 damage. If I add ancient Nord arrows, 10 damage, I now have a 71 damage bow. And the damage in the menu tray reads 81. I have a 52 level in archery and 3 Overdraw perks selected for 60% more damage. Not sure if this is bugged or I just don't know the right formula.

Bow damage is being displayed differently, that's all. Previously you had to calculate for yourself the combined damage of your bow and whatever arrow type you had equipped. Now it calculates for you. Just unequip all arrows and you'll see your bow damage drop, then you can test further by equipping different arrow types and your bow damage adjusts accordingly.

Thank you! Now we can stop griping about our bows doing "too much" damage.

On a slightly different tack though, my bow has disappeared since 1.5. That is to say, I still have it and can use it, but it no longer appears in my inventory. It was only looking at this thread that made me want to check its damage - but I can't tell lol! It's a dwarven sphere crossbow, which I never even heard of before but looted as it had some silly stats way over any bows I could make or buy.

There are no crossbows in the game useable by players as far as I'm aware. So it's either a mod you downloaded or you added it via the console - quite often modded things won't work properly when a new patch is released. Just googled and you can add one with this command "player.equipitem 0010ec8a", so I'm guessing that's what you did?

Someone did a test on this.. too lazy to search for the tread right now, but the basic findings were that the tool tip that displays how much damage you do is wrong because it's counting the arrow's damage twice for some reason. Bows don't actually do any more damage than they did in any earlier patches; they just broke the tool tip that displays the bow's damage in patch 1.5.

The poster tested it with a drauger that he spawned using console commands with a specific amount of health and checked the drauger's health using console commands after shooting it with different types of bows with different arrows and different skill setups.
