Editing existing spouses question

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 3:24 am

I am working on editing one of the existing default spouse NPCs. I wish to customize their vendor inventory that becomes available after the wedding is finished. The NPC I am working with is not a vendor before hand nor do I wish them to be. However I find their after marriage selection to be rather pathetic.

I wish to receive advice as to how to improve their inventory without altering any other spouse NPCs or without altering the 'before marriage' version of the NPC.

There's chests that holds their items. Modifying these should modify what they can sell (haven't tested it, though). Type spouse in the filter and navigate to World Objects --> Containers. The chests should all be listed there.

This is likely going to come as a shocker, but I actually read around before coming here to post. I already did as you suggested before I posted. The results of my snooping was to discover that there are currently 5 spouse vendor chests that are each shared.

MerchantSpouseApothecaryChest
MerchantSpouseBlacksmithChest
MerchantSpouseInnkeeperChest
MerchantSpouseMiscVendorChest
MerchantSpouseSpellsChest

These are generic chests that spouses of the given category default to. What I am seeking to do is make a specific spouse stop defaulting to that chest and make them refer to a customized chest.
The problem I am having is I cannot find out where or what is causing the spouse to default to that chest.

Edit: nevermind me. Misread.

Edit2: Character --> Faction. Filter "spouse". There's 25 factions (five for each city, one for each type of merchant). In there you can choose which chest they take their stock from.

If you want to edit a specific spouse (and leave the other potential spouses untouched), you'll have to remove them from the faction they're in, and add them to a custom one.

Sorry for the delay. I imagine some are gonna start ranting and complaining over me bumping a post that is a week and a half old.

All the same, I found the boxes and factions you have been indicating me towards but they do not seem attached. Using Aela as an example, none of these factions seem to actually be a part of her.

I am starting to think that the marriage itself is scripted to assign a new faction that was not there before? I tried snooping around and could not find these functions.

I got the other idea (have not tried yet) to assign a new vendor faction to the potential spouse NPCs and try attaching a conditional to it so it will not appear/function unless married. Any opinion on that?

the marriage assigns a new faction and ai package during the marriage quest. whoever you choose to marry will fill the alias of that quest and receive the replacement faction/packages.

if you are looking to only change one particular NPC, get ready for a world of headache because editing the marriage quest is like opening pandora's box.

you are probably better off making an entirely new marriage quest specifically for your preferred NPC that hijacks the existing marriage quest.

for starters, remove the NPC from "potentialmarriagefaction" and create a brand new potential marriage faction just for that NPC and use that as a hook to start your custom marriage quest.
