Email to and reply from Bethesda regarding PS3 Community and

Post » Sat Jul 14, 2012 12:22 pm

Hey,

I don't know if anyone has heard anything with regard to patch 1.6 however i decided to send a complaint via email regarding the state of the PS3 version and the lack of response to the PS3 community's concerns.
I also raised the issue of the XBOX 360 being two patches ahead of the PS3 and having new features added on top of that. I basically pointed out that early access to dlc was one thing but the extra patches and features were out of order.

The info i got is not much at all but, for all the people, like myself, who were starting to doubt we would get the next patch, the guy gave assurances that the 1.6 patch will be coming to PS3.

The formatting of my original message is all messed up and i can be bothered fixing it so i won't post it, but you will gather what i said from their response and my reply. The only changes i made was to remove personal info and highlight the confirmation part. Here is thier reply and my response to that:

Hello,

Thanks for contacting Bethesda Technical Support!

I am really sorry to hear that you are disappointed with Skyrim and the way that Bethesda is dealing with the PS3 version of the game.

Here at technical support we only deal with technical issues related to our software and we are not involved in marketing decision. For this reason, I cannot answer your question about why update 1.6 has not made it yet to PS3.

I know for real that 1.6 will be released in PS3 but unfortunately I cannot tell when it would be released as we have not received a ETA for this update.

With regards of Creation Kid and "modding" community, it is not really up to Bethesda to decide if a particular console port will get it or not. Aside of this, Bethesda does not handle the Creation Kid and neither "mods".

If you would like to make a complaint, then you should write your complaint to us and we will escalate it to the main office. This is the way that Bethesda handles customer complaints.

Carlos,

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I am glad to hear that the 1.6 patch is in development for the PS3.

Due to the complete lack of information regarding the patch and the PS3 version many people, myself included, were starting to doubt that the 1.6 patch was even being worked on for the PS3.

The information you have given me is the first reliable indication that the patch WILL be released for the PS3, if not when.

As for the XBOX 360, Creation Kit and mods for the PC i mentioned, i was merely pointing out that both the XBOX 360 and PC platforms have had a lot more attention than the PS3 with regard to new features, bug fixes and optimizations.

As i said, the XBOX 360 has had Kinect functionality added as well as early access to DLC and is two full stability patches ahead of the PS3.

Early access to DLC is one thing, but to have had patches that improve stability, fix bugs AND add new features, while the PS3 community cannot even get an assurance that our platform will continue to get bug fixes, is outrageous.
The so called "Kinect" patch is something that could easily be brought to PS3 as it has almost nothing to do with Kinect as a whole and more to do with the microphone it has, which is something the PS3 also has. I mention that in particular as it is a good example of why a large amount of the PS3 community feels they are being forgotten.

The PC, due to its open platform nature, has small updates for stability all the time as well as the PC community having access to developer tools to fix any issues they encounter.

Meanwhile the PS3 users feel completely disregarded and ignored. It feels like Bethesda lack even the most basic courtesy and respect toward the PS3 community as most requests for information are met with silence or, in the case of Pete Hines, blocking people asking polite, valid questions regarding the PS3 situation on Twitter, outright contempt.

I realize all these issues are beyond your personal control, however, as the only person from Bethesda/Zenimax to have responded to any questions i have asked, i wanted to put across these issues and concerns in the hope you could pass them on to the relevant people with the sincere hope they will at least address at least the lack of information forthcoming to the PS3 community.

This is a serious issue as, although it may not affect Bethesda directly at the moment, it could very well affect future sales on the Playstation platform as many users feel lied to, cheated, ignored and have lost all faith in Bethesda to deliver a working game due to the recent track record.

Again, i thank you for your reply and assurance. Please treat both the emails i have sent as a single complaint and i hope you can pass this conversation on to the relevant people, as per your suggestion.

Yours sincerely,

xxxxxxxxx

Some news is better than none at all. I'm glad we will get at the very lease the 1.6 patch. However, this guy could just be some flunkie that really doesn't know anything. Its impossible to tell.

"If you would like to make a complaint, then you should write your complaint to us and we will throw it in the bin"

Regarding the OP's email - The Kinect isn't just a microphone, the internal hardware also interprets the voice signal and converts it into digital commands. This is a complex piece of hardware and the PS3 does not have a similiar system in place. It would require expensive 3rd-party software to integrate the voice commands into PS3 skyrim.

If that's really an email from their technical support team, I weep for the English language. People in such positions ought to have a basic handle on it. "I know for real" - hmmm..... considering I've sent many such emails, tweets, facebook PMs etc. and never got a reply, you'll have to forgive me for being sceptical here.
