Enchanting a Bow (Glitched)

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 1:18 pm

ive just built my Daedric bow (Legendary) 104 dmg, now i went to enchant it with fire dmg 21pts, but just before i click ok i noticed my dmg had gone down to 64 ??
so i tried it with my great sword, got 21pts fire dmg but the over all dmg never moved, so why does the bow lose nearly half its power by putting an enchant on it ?

You need the arcane blacksmith perk, I think. at least that's what UESP says. Otherwise it reverts to base damage.

Probably because you did the fortify restoration thing wrong.

Tried to reproduce the problem but couldn't. My 130 Legendary Daedric bow doesn't lose any damage when I enchant it, regardless of what perks I have.

Edit: Actually, I reproduced it. The Smithing perk breaks it.

Not sure why but having the perk Arcane Blacksmith removes the improvement from bows when you enchant them, so you have to smith them after the enchant, not before. It's a strange bug.

It only happens to Bows, other weapons have no problem.

You should be able to re-smith the improvement onto your bow after enchanting it, will just need another Ebony ore.

Another update. It's not bows that are bugged, it's whatever weapon you have equipped while you're trying to enchant it. Also, it's only a visual bug in the enchatment window. Once the item is enchanted it goes back to normal damage.

Edit: This happens even without the Arcane Blacksmith perk, so I think it's just having the item equipped that causes it, nothing else.

Can confirm this. Have noticed the enchantment display bug previously, but when I checked the weapon in my inventory after enchanting it everything was normal and good-to-go.
