Enchantment is good why?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 8:15 pm

I decided a while back that none of my characters will take perks in any more than one of the crafting skills. That whole system just seemed too easy for abuse and to be honest it did not seem real feasible to me that a person would be an expert in more than one craft.

So anyway I played a warrior who picked the Smithing perks. No problem at all.

I played a rogue that picked the Alchemy perks. Made some fairly nice potions, all is good.

Now I am playing a mage and I want her focused on Enchantment. Well I have learned about all the enchantments I can from things I find. I have gotten in the habit of collecting souls. But I am not seeing much use for actually enchanting. I have tried to make a couple things, but about all I can get are things that add 12% Fire Resistance, etc., but I can find loot much better than that so what am I missing?

Also which Enchantment perks do I need to get right away?

Also what are some ideas of things to make? I am playing a pure mage, no weapons and no armor.

Thanks.

Once you get all 5 ranks of "enchanter" and the rest of the center path of the perk tree, you will be able to make the sickest gear ever. 2 enchants per item.

Level it to 100 and you will love it.

Yes, and you will make your game even EASIER, and there will be no point in looting chests or bodies. I quit enchanting for my mage because i want to FIND fun things. That's just me, though.

Mana cost reduction (especially for destruction) is very important for mages. Eventually you will have to cast quite expessive spells, and if you don't reduce the cost significantly, you'll have a problem. I would recommend the "enchanter" perks (stronger effects), and the "insightful enchanter" way to "double effect" (2 effects on one item [both at full power]).
Watch out to take the effect that only reduces spell cost, not the one that also increases mana regeneration. The first one is better.

Enchanter (5/5)
Insightful Enchant (1/1)
Corpus Enchanter (1/1)
Extra Effect (1/1)

Enchanting is the single largest benefical tradeskill. For a Mage, this is due to the fact you can get two schools of Magicka to be completely FREE to cast with Enchants. For any Melee character, you can Fortify your primary damage form so high you can One-Shot ANYTHING in the entire game. It is critical for the best Enchants to use a Black Soul Gem filled with a Black Soul, or a Grand Soul Gem filled with a Grand Soul Gem to get the best enchant possible.

Also, brew Fortify Enchant potions to make the effects even higher.

Well none of my characters have every gotten any skills up to 100. I generally retire them long before then (I usually only complete two or three factions per character as I also don't believe in playing one character that does everything. I just find it more fun that way).

I guess I'll keep perking the Enchanter and a few others and try to make some mana reduction items.

I am currently 12th level and already the Arch-Mage, so I have all that gear, which is pretty good for now I guess.

Thanks.

Game is easy with or without enchanting, game have cap for damage reduction and magic damage reduction, but enemy can't do damage when you reach the cap because they are programmed for not doing too much damage, the problem is the enemy not enchanting, you can reach the same cap with "normal" equipment and you have the same problem, bethesda doing the game too easy (this with master difficult)

As stated above, get your skills and perks up, then you can more powerful enchantments. Also, make sure the Soul Gem you choose has a Grand Soul in it. If you pick a lesser soul, it will reduce the power of the enchantment, even if your skill allows more.

Your Mage looks a little like mine

Staves need enchanting and rank perks make for cheaper enchants on those. You make a ton of money, and if you have a follower you can enchant their stuff

Hate running out of magicka with Destruction spells? You can enchant it so you can spray those spells forever, you don't have to let go of the trigger/mouse button, whatever. With 100 Enchanting you can do this for 2 schools of magic.

OP? Absolutely. Pretty awesome? Sure, why not.

Be warned: this may break the game for you.

Sorry more questions.

Does the value of the item being enchanted make a difference? For example is a Copper and Onyx Circlet the same as a Gold and Emerald Circlet for enchantment purposes?

Also, since I wear no armor, I suppose the items I would enchant are Rings, Amulets, Circlet (or hoods/hats), robes, gloves and boots. So I can wear only 6 enchanted items at a time?

Lastly, are there white robes anywhere in the game that I can enchant? I found a wedding dress in the wiki, but not sure that it's white or obtainable.

Thanks.

Value doesn't matter on items. Only with the Soul Gem level.

Yep, but I think that's about how many anyone can wear.

Dunno about white robes. Never seen any.

I like the new way of enchanting as a skill.

I use enchanted double swords. One has soul trap built in so I needed worry about recharging problems.

100% one-handed,
100% heavy armor
100% smithing.

Now all I need is 100% enchanting for my character to truly rock!!

No weapons, no armor, you want to go straight up the middle of the enchant tree. Once you've gotten to 100 (assuming some Alteration expertise for armor), any gear you make will make you virtually unstoppable.

I agree. Putting points into the enchant perk will eventually make looting unnecessary, which would take a lot of the fun out of the game for me. Alchemy can be just as overpowering as Enchant, but at least you will need to continually be on the hunt for ingredients. With Enchant, once you reach 100 and make your ubergear, you are basically done.

DUDE!!!!! I was readin your post and it gave me the best idea ever!, what if, like the azura star quest, you send someone into a grand soul gem who has a filled grand soul gem on his person! you could have a near infinite loop of grand souls inside a grand soul gem!!!
