Enchants animations in TES

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 5:01 am

Is it just me or the glowing effect of enchanted weapons in TES is a little too discrete? Being a high fantasy world and all, one could expect more spectacular animations for enchanted gear, I know Todd Howard said in an interview about RPGs that he's not aiming at Asian design style which is over the top, he wants a grittier "lower" fantasy design, but do you think cooler animations detract the player so much in a game that already features magic, dragons and short skirts with armor value?
What do you say, would you like more spectacular enchant effects on weapons and armor?

I don't like the glowing effect of the enchanted weapons to begin with. It'd be okay if your generic weapons were like that when they were enchanted, but when you have those one of a kind weapons with those glowing lines, it really does bother me.

I could see in some cases where I would want a mace, or a bow or something enchanted to boost my skill in it's respective combat tree while RPing, and the glow would annoy me beyond belief. But in other cases, where I want to play a high-fantasy-super-geared-killing-machine then I would want him to look very flashy and powerful. And seeing that Bethesda can't really go one way or another, I like how they stuck with the glowing veins on the weapon. I wish you could choose the colour though.

I don't really like high fantasy that much, so I'm glad that my steel greatsword isn't turned into some gigantic, 2m long firey greatsword when I give it a 5 fire damage enchantment...

I wouldn't mind flashier enchantments such as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xq3x0lQl5ZM.
I also hope they add fire weapons and fire arrows, very cool to use them at night http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/5627/gothic3archonvf4.jpg

The big fireworks popping out of your blades can become tiresome when you see them on screen in 1st person. I think that's why they keep it simple, most of the gamers play this series in 1st view unlike World of warcraft&co.

I like both ways, I wouldn't protest if they add weird animations in the next games.

I like the glow around the weapons enchanted in Cata, but I hate seeing the particles flying off of them. It looks absolutely ridiculous when I see someone with Avalanche and Landslide and their weapons are sheathed. The http://db.mmo-champion.com/static/img/screenshots/1701.jpg had a nice glow to it, as do the http://media.mmo-champion.com/images/news/2011/september/legendarydagger3.jpg.
