Enemies never using Illusion?

Why is this? It would be awesome to have invisible enemies. The "mind" spells would be nigh-on impossible to work, but it could be worked around, could it not?

Things like invisibility (to flee or eposition) and paralyze sure it's 100% possible but it seems Bethesda don't want to focus on enemy AI which i find a bit disappointing.

Invisability is dispelled after the first action, so that tosses that out since NPCs want to kill you. The spells that wouldn't work against the player would have to have new effect made that do effect the player, and that takes a lot of work. You would effectively need 2 spells for one.

There are enemies who use invisibility. Spriggans, of course. And I swear there were a few mages and vampires who used it against me. Not for attacking, I don't think, but for running away.

It might work with better AI. Unfortunately, we only have what we do now.

Once a bandit used invisibility when he went into the "one knee" position. I reloaded, killed him quickly and found an invisibility potion in his pocket.

Spriggans and vampires use invisibility.

I've always wondered how they would implement mind spells (Fear, Fury, Calm) that strike the player.
I'd imagine that Fear would make you think you had much less health than you actually had. Calm would make all enemies invisible to you (and turn the combat music off.) And Fury would make your allies look like frost trolls.

It would be cool if you walk into an empty room and you look around. And suddenly you are dead due to a 15x backstab instakill from an assassin mage. It would be very popular with players, I'm sure.

That's a nice fear effect. For fury, I was thinking more along the lines of everyone becoming hostile, but it's whatever really.

Do I detect sarcasm? I'd much rather have the tension than just die at the hands of an arch cryomancer for the 1000th time.

Mages and Vampires use invisibility, but only for escaping.

I would like that very much.

There are only very few illusion spells (like invisibility) NPCs and creatures can use without stopping the player controlling his own character and let the computer take over. How would you demoralize the player? How cast fear? The game Neverwinter Nights took the controls away from the player in cases like this, and to be honest, it wasn't much fun.

Anything that would take over my character, that is not a scripted event, would just make me put the controller down and never play the game again.

Vampires love to go invisible when they are near death. They turn invisible, run away and heal. Gives me a headache.

That sounds better than in Morrowind, where I saw a skeleton "sneak" right up to my pc and land a critical hit.

The only sound defense against this would be detect life/death. So a spell - not a potion anymore- doh!

I had this idea earlier, perhaps for a fear spell the enemy could appear as a giant dremora with seemingly infinite health?

Vampires, & mages use invisibility all the time. To escape, should they think they're outmatched.

The player wouldn't fall for that though, at least not more than once. An interface screw, as suggested earlier by Inglar, would be better. (at the very least, it would be more likely to fool the player more than once)

NPC can use invisibility for themselves and paralyse against the player character all they like. But do you mind the game controls your character when the npc cast fear, frenzy, command and calm at your character?

There are players in this forum don't like finishing moves when the game controls the player character to finish of a npc.

They wouldn't be able to use the mind-affecting spells.

I can only imagine the crying on these Forums when some enemy Illusionist hit you with a Fear/Fury/Calm spell and you lose control of your character for a bit...

We'd all drown in the bitter tears of "Why would you do this to me Bethesda?!?!?!?!? How can you make me lose control of my character?!?!?!?!" *insert screaming infant sounds here*

Yeah... it's probably best that the enemies (and a limited number of them) are restricted to using only Invisibility and even then only for escape.

Fear could work almost like TF2 when you lose the round and you just run away randomly and you can't control yourself for a period of time. Frenzy could work so that if you are hit, everyone becomes hostile to you, you become a priority. So if there are any observers, they hop in and attack you(thats how frenzy works for the enemy anyways)

Rally, Courage etc. would be amazing to see.
