Enough is enough...

Just a thought for everyone, when do you decide enough is enough and retire your character in order to start off with a new one?

I personally do it when:
Completed MQ
Completed Civil War
Completed 1 guild

Honest opinions please.

Depends on the character concept, I guess. If I wanted to be a character with a strong conscience, I'd probably agree with Mjoll when entering Riften and avoid the Thieves Guild. I might not complete certain guilds to completion. Join the Companions, only to get mocked by most members? Probably best to stick around until you can get the skyforge weapons then. If I roleplayed someone who didn't sweat it, I'd go through the whole thing. Or maybe.. just maybe.. I'll become leader, as well as killing off half of the Companions later.

I have a pretty definite playstyle that I do - Theivey Roguey Sneaky type. I restart when I find a better build or some new Idea for better synergy.

This time around (4th iteration) I found something I can't improve on, so I will keep this one- at least till a DLC comes out.

This. I tend to play these games from the perspective that I am living in a world that never stops, not as a game that has a end to it. If i get bored of a hack and slash barbarian ill restart a mage, get tired of him and ill make a thief, i get tired of him and ill make a knight.

Usually once the MQ is complete. This is why I often leave the MQ in all Beth games (except Morrowind) until very late, like level 20 or 30.

Morrowind was the exception because it intertwined all your exploring with your quest. You had to gain levels before doing the next part ensuring you explored most of the world.

Later Beth games are bad in that you can compete the MQ and never see everything else the game has to offer.

This should really be a poll.

When I get bored with the playstyle and have an idea for another one. First was a pure Rogue with high sneak, archery, and pickpocket. Got to level 47. Char now is a Illusionist Dunmer Vampire.

I never "retire" characters, but sometimes I stop playing them for a while and start a new one because I want to experience a different playstyle. I have five characters going in Skyrim right now. I just play whichever one I am in the mood for.

I am still on character #1. But I think I will give him a hero's death after completing the main quest and the civil war stuff and probably the thieves guild. But I may also do the companions stuff. I'm not sure yet. It depends on whether or not I can come up with a reason to have my thief/smith want to be a companion or a werewolf. I'm also thinking about the DB. So, sometime when all that is done and I feel I have seen all the map locations. Since this is my first character I think it's important that he sees as much of the world as possible.

I don't really care about how often you get to play Skyrim, I just wanted to know what others think. It's a forum for discussion for people interested in the topic, if your not interested then don't post, simple as.

I was going to after the MQ and civil war quests...but my second character was too ugly to play with for any length of time in a session, so I decided to unretire no. 1 and prep him up for DLC.

Well I like to make and play one character, as even should I start over my play style doesn't change. I had to re-start my first character after I beat the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guild, because I felt that joining those factions went against how I saw him.

Anyway...I have several characters and like another poster said earlier, I flip flop between them depending on my mood.

I don't ever retire them...I just rest them.

I tend to enjoy the building of the character more than finishing a character off. Three characters and I still haven't done the MQ. Now after patch 1.4, I've gone back to my original character to see if the problems I was having are gone and it seems they are. I'm thrilled that I might be able to take her through the MQ now but I'm thinking about avoiding the civil war part, not happy with either side. I tend to play a character until a new one starts formulating in the back of my mind. That's when I know I'd like to try something different and I go with it. Go with the flow and keep it fun! :tes:

I play 3 characters, switching every day to another one.

Assassin/sneak/archery/light armor; pure destr mage; conjurer mage.

If I only play one character over a long time, I get bored. Playing 3 different characters keeps the game fresh and interesting. Also try to have them do different quests.

Situational, well past the first playthrough at least.

I normally do just the Main Quest on the first character, avoiding all other quests where I can.

Once I experience the narrative, I start messing around with character builds. I do the three archetypes and make a couple of blender builds to experiment.

All depends on the mood once I have a stable of characters built, and God help me...

I'll never understand how people only make one character.

Damn, and here I was expecting a Snakes on a Plane reference.

Anyway, I've completed the MQ once and it totally bored me. It left me a great sense of fatigue and done-it-all feeling. Not cool saving kittens from trees anymore when everyone knows I just saved the damn world.

You had no interest to do the Guild Quests post MQ?

Perhaps, but this sounds pretty suspect.

1. You can clear bounties with console commands.
2. A high level illusionist can calm the guards to pay their bounties.
