Entering VATS causes Crash

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:19 pm

Hi,

Have seen many VATS related bug posts but not this specific one. Apologies if it has come up already.

Everytime I try to enter VATS, the game starts to stutter, framerate drops to near nothing, then freezes, then crashes. No matter how many times I have reloaded, restarted etc this happens.

Does anyone else have this problem? Everything else seems to run perfectly fine. Loading times are short, frame rate is pretty good. Just VATs

I get this problem, exactly. It's not all the time, it's only ocassionally, and it depends on where I'm facing and how many enemies there are present.

I also get a full-on blue screen of death every time I use VATS. This means I can't win the more difficult fights, making the game basically unplayable.

If you have a C-Media chipset based sound card update the drivers @ http://www.cmedia.com.tw/EN/DownloadCenter_Detail2.aspx?pserno=0&dtype=ALL
This solved my VATS crashes (thankyou to the person who discovered this)

edit: On WinXP you can check if it's a problem with the sound drivers by lowering the hardware acceleration to basic from the control panel - this worked as a temporary solution for me until i found the updated drivers.

Hmm this may help with my crashes too.
I shall try it.
