eRepublik

eRepublik is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online game, web browser game developed by eRepublik Labs which launched on October 21, 2008 and is accessible via the Internet. The game is set in a mirror world (called the New World) where players, referred to as citizens, join in local and national politics where they can help formulate national economic and social policies as well as initiating wars with their neighbors and/or tread the path of a private citizen working, fighting and voting for their state. (sited from wikipedia)

A few years ago this forum had a good amount of eRepublik members and the game was quite different from what it is today.
But now only a few people play this game from this forum, so for the possible enjoyment of my fellow forumers I want introduce this game to see if you may like it.

But you maybe thinking , fish I have no time for other games in my life right now , how can I play this game?
Easy it only takes a few minutes out of your day.(around 3-10 minutes)

How do you have fun with just playing a few minutes per day though?
Matters on what you want to do. Organizing a political party to win your state or country elections. Being part of a military unit to fight off your natural enemy. Or just make lots of virtual money. And finally having your own newspaper to spread propaganda , make fun of other countries and etc.

Note there is a system of buying gold and other items with real money but it doesn't stop you from certain features, through the two years of me playing I have not spent a single dime on it so it is up to you.

Now I am going to talk about some experiences and history I have had in the game. When I first joined in the summer of 2009 I started in New York and within a week Russia and other P.E.A.C.E countries nearly took control of the united states for a while. So I fled to Australia and then to China to where I am today. After some time Russia and it's allies were kicked out. Then I remember when the United states made a land bridge I think from Israel to the ex China territories. The United states did this because most of China, India and Iran were under the control of Indonesia. At that time Indonesia controlled most of asia, from Iran to Australia. The united states fought back Indonesia and destroyed their Asia empire. The main battle in china during that time was in northern china there was a province with high natural resources needed for weapons manufacturing. Many battles went for the region I think it was Hiijang was the name of it. China now controls the province today.....

I will let you forumers to make up your own mind about this game.....join please :)

Ugh I used to play. But then they ruined the system and I left. They broke it for me. :( Always been a member of the UK up in the safe north so I wasn't that interested in battling but then the focus shifted to battle (IMO) which was my game breaker.

Rawr. Haven't played for long, nor have I gotten deeply involved, but you might as well add me. I'm Etheris, and I'm a Unitedstatesian.

Also, I do have one question. I'm considering starting up a satirical 'Conspiracy Theorist' newspaper, but I'm curious if that's the kind of thing that people would be interested in reading, and if it's been done before. Any thoughts?

Matthias. James. Bowler Currently in UK London.

Quick question. What the hell happened to the economy? Gold prices have risen a lot while I've been gone.

It looks intersting. I'd be intersted in joining. It would be nice if we could organise Bethesda members and do something coordinated. Like run a Corporation or take control of a government.

I'd be up for that. I for some reason have loads of food kicking around and a bit of cash so I can help new members out.

That'd be cool.

The game it reminds me of is CyberNations. I remember that now.

As well why is nearly all of Africa unclaimed, as well as several large parts of Asia and Greenland?

Also this reminds me of another game I used to play, my account got deleted for 25 days of inactivity though.

I don't recall the exact reason, but I believe it has something do with the number of players from certain countries; for instance, a bunch of Algerians started playing, so now there adding Algeria.

Jobs pay much more money than they use to at start. Hell I remember making $8 in V1 a day was good. I was inactive for V2, I just worked and trained.....stupid hexagons.
I can't tell you exactly what happened with the economy except job skills are gone, I didn't pay attention till about five months ago.

Besides the East coast of the united states controlled by poland? Ya Turkey is kinda unfriendly with other One nations , but they are not friendly with Eden ether. Basically Turkey is neurtral if I remember correctly. Some countries are off the map, mexico might not exist after tonight. Croatia owns most of mexico now and there is just tons of stuff going on..
I wish I could tell you more but I can't understand half the articles anyhow....

Alliances of several countries. Pheonix no longer exists, but Eden is still around.

Alliances of several countries. Pheonix no longer exists, but Eden is still around.

Really, they've gone by all sorts of names. PEACE GC was the old name of Phoenix. Now it's apparently One. I can't remember what EDEN's predecessor was.

Basically, the world is divided into two blocs of countries, each dominated by their respective 'superpowers'. Phoenix, last I was on, was dominated by Indonesia and Hungary. EDEN was dominated by Romania and a few other countries (the USA is not a 'superpower' in eRep last I recall, as Indonesia and Hungary and Romania...er... have a few discreet 'advantages' (read- they cheated horribly)).

It's a rather unusual system. PEACE/EDEN's Predecessor were at war. The USA, UK, Canada, Romania, and a few other countries were in EDEN's predecessor- Indonesia and Hungary and more were in PEACE. Then EDEN's predecessor fell, and was replaced by EDEN. PEACE fell, replaced by PHOENIX (now evidently by One).

The first thing to understand is that the world shuffles around only minorly when it comes down to that. When Predecessor fell (I'm calling it that since I can't remember the name), the UK was the most prominent country to defect, leaving the USA and steaming off the rest of the world.

I used to be quite active. I was the second-highest ranking member of the US Army branch of the military (and should have been highest) (in non-Game terms, as in, in the organizational structure). I played for a year, and burnt out (a process hastened very much when I was passed over for a promotion against a much less qualified candidate whom ALSO had less seniority than I did). Then they changed up the entire war system from a system that WORKED to one that was horribly overcomplicated and drove away much of the playerbase.

Really, the key thing to realize is that the sort of nationalism you see in the World Cup and other sporting events is alive and well and one of the main reasons the USA is not nearly as powerful as we are in the real world (not to mention the same anti-American sentiment present, but that's getting into politics and I won't mention it further beyond the fact that it prevails heavily in the game). When I played, the admins were incompetent at the best of times and corrupt at the worst of times. I never spent a dime and got a year of enjoyment out of it, though, so it wasn't all wasted.

Play at your own risk. It can be heavily addicting. But the funnest part exists beyond the game itself. Get involved in forums and such, join a branch of the Military, and interact with people. The game itself is not very much fun. Its coordinating with the other people that makes it fun. As a social experiment, it succeeds. It is a world where trolls not just are tolerated, but thrive.

I joined, and I must say, I like it. And the fact you can add influence to wars makes me want to keep playing even more. Alas, I've reached my food limit for the hour and will have to wait for the next hour to continue playing. *Sigh*
