Esbern's Potion bug (dragon infusion perk) & Blade-compa

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 11:10 pm

Both me and two friends have the same problem with these two quests on PC, so it's not something wrong with my gamefiles.

When you have brought three NPC companions to reform the Blades you get your first quest (from Esbern) to find a dragon-lair and kill a dragon with the help of the new Blades. When you come back Esbern tells you to get a dragon bone and scale for him to study in order to create something helpful "the scale from the Argonian that bit you"... so you get the quest called "bring a dragon bone and a dragon scale to Esbern".

When you deliver them the quest completes, you get a potion called "Esbern's Potion", which should give the "dragon infusion perk" (dragons do 25% less damage to you).. however, the quest remains in your log (doesn't track or let you click it) and the potion does nothing when consumed.

Also on a side note... if you bring the female companion from the theives-guild-town after you get her magical sword from the Dwemer ruins, she will kill the other two blades while sparring in the courtyard due to the magical damage she does... so take that sword from her as soon as she gets there (and never give any weapons that does magical damage).

Please patch this.

Seriously... there is no one else than the three of us having this problem? I find that hard to believe...

I think i had a similar problem. i drank the potion and it seemed like nothing happened. don't know how to fix it. but the storyline seemed to keep moving forward for me.

Same problem here. Difference is that I got that quest as soon as I got into Sky Haven Temple, and so I have yet to recieve the quest about rebuilding the Blades. But otherwise same thing. When I leave in the scale and bone I get "Esbern's Potion" but the quest does not update, and the potion itself as far as I can tell does nothing. No buff, no perk, nothing. Is this problem so rare that no one has a solution?

I got the quest without recruiting any followers, probably because i already killed said dragon, but didnt got any perk...

after checking with the console, i came to the conclusion that this feature is bugged, and gave it to myself manually, by doing the following:

1. help "dragon infusion" 4
the system now gave me 3 options
mgef: 000f5ffb
perk:000f5ff9
spel: 000f5ff8

2. then i tried to add the perk:
player.addperk f5ff9
but it didnt worked nor showed any visual difference

3. then added the spell
player.addspell f5ff8
and it added the active power of "Dragon Infusion" to my list which grants me 25% damage reduction from dragons.

this is a solution for players who don't give a s**t about achievments :)

Thanks man, I'll do that as well - since I don't give a [censored] about achievements either. :)

Just dropped by to state that this has just occurred to me too. PC player. Sounds like a useful perk for my squishy Mage but it don't work :goodjob:

I've also heard that using the console doesn't effect achievements (not that I'm overly bothered by them). Is this so?

Like others, I got the quest upon entering Sky Temple since I have quite a few notches on my dragon belt. At the time, I thought any dragon bone and scale would do, so I grabbed one of each from my chest at home and got the reward, minus the update. Oh well.

So later, I'm enroute to another dungeon and decide to fast travel to the closest point and hoof it from there. Upon my arrival, a dragon attacks and once slain, the quest for the bone and scales updates! The dragon had exactly one bone and one scale on it and my next instructions were to return to Esbern. Unfortunately, I'm stuck from there because I have refused to kill Paarthurnax so he won't talk to me and further update the quest.

I suspect that is why it is bugging for most of you. You have to kill a specific dragon to get the bone and scale in order for the quest to actually complete. In my case, the dragon was at Mount Anthor. I will test this by consoling the death of Paarthurnax and see how things progress. Stay tuned.

So once I used console command setstage MQPaarthurnax 100, and was able to speak with Esbern, I was given the option of discussing the dragon that was killed at Mount Anthor and the quest completed. Potion effects can still not be seen in the active affects.. ah well.

Happy Hunting!
