How does escaping from jail work? I've really never done it..

So you sneak out and manage to find you stuff. Then what? Do you have to kill guards to get out of the jail from there? Does this add to your bounty? Will you be pursued once you get outside or is your bounty erased once you choose to go to jail?

i only been in whiterun jail, game gave me one lock pick to open a lock on jail doors once i did that i run to guards chest to try to recover my armor but broke my only lock-pick after i took off running bc i didn't want to get killed with out no armor or weapons i pay dead is dead and all i remember it was much stress , but you do get achievement if you escape thats a good thing

If I remember correctly you only have a bounty in the hold you escaped jail from. You must sleep for your bounty to go away and be released. I escaped once had to kill one guard to get the key to the chest with my stuff. Then used my sneak skills and got out of town. Later I had to pay the bounty or go to jail in that hold.

If you escape, I believe 1000 bounty is added. So nothing too major.
