Evasive roll?.

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 3:51 am

So apparently we are only able to do a silent foward roll but not backwards or sideways?. and I don't know if this is a glitch or what but I seem to be able to to the stealth roll when I never even got the perk for it so theres that.but back to what I was saying why are we only able to do a foward roll only when crouching wouldn't it be more useful to use a sideways roll while standing to evade something like a charging bear or a power attack from a npc?. anyone else find this annoying?.

I think a person in 150 pound armor can't do barrel rolls.

the purpose of a silent roll is to be able to move faster while sneaking.. not to be able to avoid attacks in combat. if a combat roll were to be implemented it certainly wouldn't be in the stealth tree. perhaps in the light armor tree.

this is the problem with cutting down on skills-there really is no proper place for a combat roll/dodge without an acrobatics/athletics skill

It should have been implemented. It would have gave a reason to use light armor instead of heavy armor after the one perk makes it light armor with better defense.

I have that perk but have no idea how to do it.

I too miss Oblivion's acrobatics.

Yeah, I spent days just jumping off of the top tier in Bruma and running back up the stairs so I could get my acrobatics skill up to do the backflip in Oblivion lol

Clearly you haven't taken the perk that makes Heavy Armor weightless.

A person in a 150 pound armor wouldn't be able to move at all.

Historical steel full plate weighted about 20 kilos(~45 pounds) and yes, you would be able to roll around in it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xm11yAXeegg

I would love to be able to roll out of the way of charging bears, that'd be so cool :D
I've found that the acrobatics skill is something I really miss from Oblivion, as I used it all the time haha.

Have to say I'd like to see a martial arts system for rolls in all directions, and throws. Armor pieces reduces the chance of a successful roll, but can still be attempted. Even master of everything it would be only like a 50% chance of success in full heavy armor. A failure would stagger yourself, loosing valuable time getting back up and penalty to stealth.

I wish they had a roll/dodge system. It could have allowed more variation and strategy, and more variety in enemy attacks and abilities. Things like dragons and giants, could have been much more difficult as they should have obviously been things you never want to be hit with regardless of what armor you have.

If you are to have these extra roll dimensions, then you should suffer the consequences of failing, i.e. x4 damage or something if you still get hit, or actual incapacity on the floor (turtle style) whereby any decent opponent will kill you if you are not well protected.

That would introduce tactics as opposed to another tool for overpowering.
