I'm trying my best to work out what exactly you're trying to say.

I gave up on that a while ago. :P

I once saw a raccoon smile at me, or was it just my perception of how his mouth moved and that I just assumed?

Or can animals feel happiness?

No because life is pain.

So you are frustrated because people are too shortsighted and selfish to improve the quality of life in the long term, is that it? I'm trying my best to work out what exactly you're trying to say, you make references to things like sophistry, biotechnology and higher purposes but you don't explain why these things are relevant, or at least not sufficiently for me to be entirely clear about what you are saying.
Same here. I've understood there's frustration about some issues, but haven't gotten much farther. We don't really get concise info concerning what the real issues are, nor how they should be solved.

Young men like me don't bother making points. There's no point.

Very true... Sadly I think both friendship and art became impossible for me the moment I was wired up to the hive. =(

I think I was originally going for the theme of being doomed being the reason people are so quick to sign off on some of the things we see happening, cause why bother resisting? We won't take responsibility for our own improvement and that of society beyond this scramble for material ownership until immortality is handed to us on a silver platter, with no effort required on our part whatsoever.

I think I tripped over my segway though. =P

Fixed the OP... Sort of.

Outside of occasionally donating cash to a cause, I'm just not the activist type. And even if I was, video game quality would probably not be highest on my list of things to focus on/resist.
Also, in terms of art and quality and direction - it's so subjective that it's hard to say it's "wrong" or "doomed". Just that you don't like it or agree with it. And in that case, the resistance comes from ... not buying.

...at least, that's as much as I can think to say based on the fact that I don't really understand what this thread is about. ;)

Yes, humans aren't the only species on the planet to have emotions no matter how "superior" we think we are.
My dog shows happiness through wagging his tail.
Monkeys can smile, laugh and cheer.
Cats cuddle up and pur - according to my friend since I don't own one.
Most feline and dgos species show a wide range of emotion, just because it isn't through facial expression doesn't mean they can't do it.

Very well. A snippet from an unreleased quest mod at the Mage's College (not really, just a page out of my book of scrawling):

You don’t realize what this is, do you? This entire world, our entire history, is merely simulation. Created by a race of beings you will never know, for the purpose of entertainment!

They care nothing about our struggles, our fate, beyond what they find amusing. They torment us intentionally. They thrive on suffering and death. It is why we were created.

So they would have something to enslave, to torture, to pose as gods to bleed creative vision from your hopeful trusting state and then destroy you.

You think you’ve tapped into some higher plane, that you’re communicating with some enlightened being? They are children! Spoiled, demonic spawn of tyrants in service of the Dark One.

This world building endeavor, creating pretty places for pretty races, all is folly. It will only let you down. They aren’t doing it to help you, whatever you’ve been told.

Promises of an afterlife? Of salvation of the soul? All lies. There is NEVER a home for you. You will NEVER know sanctuary, privacy, individuality. They will rip your soul apart to taste each precious bit before they kill you.

What you call god, is nothing more than an evil alien parasite, posing as divine, to win your willing sacrifice of all you’ll never have. All that you will never be. You will never be free.

You are their willing mortal slaves. You do only what you’re meant to do, what you’re told to do, what you must do, and all the while you fools make excuses for them!

They take advantage of that weakness, your helpless unfulfilled and vulnerable state, to swindle you into filling in the gaps in their design. Creating content for them to devour while you are left with nothing.

They allow you to believe the hopeful lies you tell yourselves to comprehend their scheming. That you are building something wonderful, that it will become the answer you are lacking, a place to be, to live, escape. But it will never come to be.

There is no escape. They never intended to offer you sanctuary. That was never the direction this was headed. You will be a slave until they rip your soul to pieces and destroy you, and in your desperation you will help them, believing it will help you.

This content you create, these worlds you help to build. They will NEVER be your own. They will add it to their database and discard you. The best you can hope is they will keep you alive long enough to allow it, but what is the point?

You will realize the truth soon enough. You will come to understand the futility of this endeavor just as I have, and will no longer wish to be here, long before the end.
