Well i've been having a really really big problem with freezing in the game, so much to the point where its unplayable. Ive gotten around 2 hours into the game and have entered the outskirts of Primm. Whenever I'm about to go in the underpass the game freezes on me regardless of what im going. Ive tried everything any fourm has ever tipped me and nothing has worked. Its froze on me well over 30 times and its basically unplayable. Iv'e sent 2 messages to Bethesda and havent been replied to yet. I would like to know if you plan on updating a patch in the very very near future for this problem. And if you aren't i would like to know what i can do to resolve this issue.

I've had random freeze ups before. But only one time did I have a spot where I locked up repeatedly after reloading. I actually fixed it by going back away from the area and then entered a building, then came back to the place I was locking up, and it worked. Try that if you havent. Also if possible trying turning down your graphics settings like fade and such.

What system are you playing on? If you're on the Xbox360, clearing your hard drive cache does wonders if you haven't already done so. Sorry, not an admin but thought I'd try to help anyways.

It's kind of funny how whenever anybody starts a new thread about problems with freezing, people chime in to say it hasn't happened to them.

That's great for them. It's also kind of irrelevant.

The fact that there are this many threads and posts about freezing doesn't mean that it's the majority of players, but that it's an unacceptably high number of players. Same deal with the Xbox 360 having a ludicrously high failure rate: It wasn't the majority of Xboxes getting the "red ring of death," but a disproportionately high number to the point where Microsoft faced threats of litigation and conceded that it needed an extended warranty just for that issue.

I'm with the OP on this. I am loving the content of New Vegas. I just wish I knew how to play it without it breaking multiple times an hour. Yeah, no joke. Used to be every couple hours, then got more frequent. Tonight, over the course of four hours, it froze on loading screens or just wandering around six times, and for two of those, resulted in a corrupted autosave file. Two corrupted autosave files in a night is just not a finished game. I feel like a QA tester over here, and it kind of makes me resent having paid full price to preorder it.

As for the OP: Once upon a time, I would have told you that you just need to quit the game and restart it when things start to get laggy, and that should prevent freezing. That's not even working for me anymore. I'm playing on the Xbox, and I'd love if someone could chime in with more input. Will I get faster loads and fewer freezes if I just turn off autosave altogether?

To the poster above, the problem happened to me alot until I learned to clear the hard drive cache every few hours. It may be a pain in the backside but it beats the alternative where the game locks up and freezed constanly. If you don't know how I can walk you through it.

I have the same problem with the "beef" quest in white society. When ever i go into the steamroom, bang it freezes. Lucky for me its a side quest and not completely game breaking for me.

it may be a loading problem....the fact that it is consistantly crashing in the same place.

Go back to goodsprings, enter a building (you must go into a building) and rest for 3 days in a row (rest 24 hours three times). Now exit the building and try going back to the place again. If something was loading incorrectly it may have been fixed in the reset.

If possible delete the patch and decline to reinstall it, I've found the patch 1.01 greatly magnifies freezing and crashing issues.

May or may not help but if your on the PC there's a performance mod that GREATLY improves general New Vegas performance. I would get pauses constantly and an unplayable good springs "event" but the mod makes it near flawless. No need for change in graphics either for me, just vastly better performance. Win Win.
