Hrm I'd say the Fiends would more than likely be Chaotic Evil or Chaotic Neutral at best.

Mr. House is the same as Ceaser's Legion? O_o.

House is hardly evil, he only does what he believes necessary to elevate mankind. He does not purposefully harm others for his own revenge/enjoyment, unlike Caeser's Legion.

Legion is hardly evil either (Depends on perspective), they also do what they believe to be necessary for mankind, and IIRC he did want a lot of people dead, just like Legion.

Legion enslaves, maruades and kills. They don't see themselves as evil, but everyone else does.

They tend to crucify maruaders and kills, they enslave women and children and anyone else that is healthy enough to work.

I would say that the NCR is probably as 'good' as a state in the Fallout universe could possibly be. Relative to virtually all the alternatives, they are 'the good guys'.

Using my definitions of good and evil, law and chaos:

Good: Dedicated to helping others: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
Neutral (G/E axis): Respectful of others' rights, but choosing not to aid them: "Live and let live." OR A mixture of good and evil.
Evil: No respect for others: "I want what I want, and will take it from you if I can."

Law: Dedicated to law and order at any cost.
Neutral (L/C axis): Respectful of law and order, but also values individual freedom.
Chaos: Opposed to rule of law, advocates total anarchy.

I will also include my estimated karma score for a faction, based on how good or evil it is.

NCR: Lawful Good. They're not perfect, but they look out for their citizens and those around them. Karma: +400

Ceasar's Legion: Lawful Evil. While they bring law nad civilization, they also enslave, kill, and torture. Karma: -600.

Mr. House: Lawful Neutral. While his ultimate intent is to restore humanity to its former glory, he is ruthless in his methods (mandating the total destruction of the BoS, for instance). Karma: 0

Independents: Variable. As head of the indepencence movement, it really depends on you.

Followers of the Apocalypse: Neutral Good. Their focus is on helping others. Karma: +900

Brotherhood of Steel: Neutral. They have their own agenda, irrelevant to law/chaos or good/evil. Karma: +100

Great Khans: Chaotic Neutral. Anarchists, but not malevolent the way some others are. Use chems and occasionally raid. Karma: -150

Boomers: Neutral. A free society that looks after their own, but has no interest in the outside world. Karma: +150

Kings: Neutral Good. Also interested in maintaining freedom and helping others, but believe in some semblance of law and order. Karma: +500

Fiends: Chaotic Evil. Violent, chem-crazed raiders with no redeeming qualities. Slaughtering them awards the player karma. Karma: -1,000

Most Vegas Families: Neutral. Dedicated to their own agenda: making money. Karma: 0
Gun-collecting Omertas: Neutral evil. Karma: -500
Cannibal White Gloves: Neutral evil. Karma: -800

Powder Gangers: Chaotic Evil. Not as bad as the Fiends, but violent raiders who oppose law and order. Karma: -500

@Thorbjoern: Evil doesn't mean the same thing as it does in everyday life on the alignment axis. Evil in D&D is typically defined as "selfish and uncaring" Not caring who you have to hurt to get yours. A despotic ruler who kills and tortures to secure his kingdom from internal threats evil, so is a demon that twists bargains to steal souls.

NCR: Lawful Neutral.

I'd argue that NCR is lawful evil, insofar as they are quite selfish and their rule-bound nature enables abuse of the system. Neutrality is about balance, evil is about selfishness and taking what you want within (or using) the law, something their backstory has plenty of.

Ceasar's Legion: Lawful Evil.

Spot on.

Mr. House: Lawful Evil.

I'd argue Lawful Neutral. He's not selfish, he wants to protect vegas, and he wants a balance, he wants NCR and Legion to fight to a draw.

Followers of the Apocalypse: Chaotic Good.

Quite accurate

Brotherhood of Steel: Lawful Neutral.

Probably accurate, argument could be made for true neutral in their dealings with outsiders but their obsession with the Codex clearly indicates lawful tendencies.

Great Khans: Chaotic Neutral.

Accurate

Boomers: Chaotic Good.

Chaotic Neutral, I'd say, they're not really altruistic, look at even the boy talking about "dropping high-explosive ordinance on ignorant savages" They want to protect themselves and persue their goals. They might help you out of loyalty but that doesn't mean "good" Only chaotic evil will betray people for no reason.

Kings: Chaotic Neutral.

Probably accurate

Fiends: Chaotic Evil.

Undoubtedly, though whether they have high enough INT scores to make alignment meaningful might be questionable lol.

Vegas Families: Neutral Evil.

spot on

Powder Gangers: Chaotic Neutral.

I'd say chaotic evil. They prey on travellers, war among themselves and don't care who they hurt.

Hardly evil, really? Yeah crucifixion is just a fraternity prank. Man! College was fun!
Maybe some people are delusional but when the majority of rational society say something is evil, it's evil.
If someone murders someone based on a principle weather they believe it to be for a good cause or not is most certainly self preserving. Bah.. I'd rather not get into this discussion. I could debate this stuff all night.

These are the Dungeons and Dragons alignments I think fit some of the factions:

NCR: Lawful Neutral.

Lawful Good. At least thats thier goal.

Ceasar's Legion: Lawful Evil.

Except that some of them betray people like in Nipton, but ok.

Mr. House: Lawful Evil.

Nah... I dont think he is evil, and I dont think live by order he just like control. True Neutral.

Independents: Chaotic Neutral.

Ok

Followers of the Apocalypse: Chaotic Good.

Spot on.

Brotherhood of Steel: Lawful Neutral.

Ok

Great Khans: Chaotic Neutral.

Mmmm... ok.

Boomers: Chaotic Good.

I dont think we got enough info to decide. We know thiere goals and how they treat others but how do they live?

Kings: Chaotic Neutral.

I think they lean more towards good. They respect others and value "good" deeds.

Fiends: Chaotic Evil.

Spot on.

Vegas Families: Neutral Evil.

They are too different from each other to pass judgment as a group and Your actions can sway them either way,

Powder Gangers: Chaotic Neutral.

Neutral evil. They are basic bandits.

Enjoy!

Point of view doesnt apply in the DnD Alignment System. It assumes there is something universaly good and evil.
Tricky? Nope since the DM decides what that is.

The D&D alignment system is flawed at the best of times.

Take the Legion, for example. Caesar honestly believes he's doing a good thing. He's giving people purpose, an identity. Nothing wrong with that. Hell, the idea that slavery is immoral is a modern invention, like, from the last 100 years or so. In the Roman Empire, which the Legion is based on, slaves were very highly regarded. Even a certain religious text which I won't name condones capturing and keeping slaves. So sure, it might be "evil" by our standards, but in the context of the Legion, I wouldn't consider it so. Not very nice, sure, but not necessarily evil.

And sure, the NCR might have "modern" sensibilities and therefore find the Legion reprehensible, but the Legion feels the same way about the NCR.

And besides, the game is pretty blatantly morally grey. Hard to shoehorn in an arbitrary alignment system into that.

Perhaps it is difficult to just align the factions with specific alignments.

And I think Caesar is like the Master from Fallout 1 or Kerghan from Arcanum.

I think calling House 'Lawful Evil' is pushing it. 'Lawful Neutral' may be more accurate, he does not side with any factions problems, he has no desire to expand and control everything, and has desire for maintained order, and plans to return things to a Pre-War state of comfort and ease. Sounds more lawful neutral to me.
