Is it possible to "obtain" the TG or DB armour without actually joining the guild?

DB.. yes.. if you start the questline and then complete the Destroy the Dark Brotherhood branch.

Thieves Guild.. pretty sure joining them or being on PC and using console commands is the only way.

There is Linwe's Armor. It's a sleeveless variant of the TG armor. You normally get it as part of the TG questline, but you might be able to get it outside the questline by going o the cave he is in and killing/looting him

He doesn't appear unless the Thieves Guild special job is activated. If you go to the cavre before that, then it'll just be filled with random Bandits (but no Linwe).

Could you spoiler tag where the cave is?

EDIT: Just got the above post.

Read my post above yours. It isn't possible until you are in the Thieves Guild...

Thats what I was wondering. Didn't know if it had to be trigger by the TG quest

You need a key and the back entrance isn't active unless you join. Could the Wax Key Perk help?

The answer is no.

You can get the DB armor by wiping them out, I think.

Simple solution is; Do the intro quests for the faction armor and... don't bother with them again until you really want to?

Can you loot the bodies of their armor/apparel? :o

Kinda'. The DB armor you are given when you join is Light Armor and improvable. The stuff you get from only killing Astrid is clothing. I don't remember If you can loot the bodies for their apparel if you destroy the DB (I don't think you can.).

TG stuff is Light Armor and improvable.

A couple of the DB folks have lootable stuff. However, there's several almost complete sets just laying around to pick as you're killing the creeps. It's all enchanted though....

Hey! Those "creeps" are my family. What's that, Mother? I know! I am!!!

You think it's actually "enchanted"? I always chalked up the bonuses being a 'quality of design' kinda' thing since we can't Disenchant them.

Well, whichever - it comes with stuff like poison resist, muffle, archery plus etc. But yeah, they aren't DE'able so not really "enchanted" as such.

I honestly don't know if TES makes a distinction. The original D&D had certain magical items (+1, +2, etc), but they also had "_____ of Quality" that had magical-like bonuses. There was no 'disenchanting' in the original D&D FWIW. :P

Also I'm looking to "obtain" Haafingar Hold Guard Armour. Is this possible without killing any of the guards? I don't have the dragons activated.

Can you Pickpocket it with Perfect Touch? Maybe if you cast Frenzy a guard will die in the mayhem?
