Faction Glitch?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 11:22 pm

So I just finished the "They went that a way" quest or w/e it's called and as I did this there's obviously the Boulder City showdown with the Khans. Now to get to the glitch, I went in and dealt with the Khans, saved the NCR troops that were held prisoner, and got the information for the "They went that a way" quest, so I got 1k xp from it...TBH there's actually 2 glitches, for one after 1 got the 1k xp it said I leveled up... yet I didn't get to improve my stats for when you level.

The second glitch, the one that's messing with me at the moment is as I'm doing this quest I also had the "Return to sender" quest from the NCR. To my knowledge I'm neutral with the NCR, it even says so on there locations, and the troops at boulder city aren't firing at me, in fact since I saved some of their troops I figured that it'd improve my fame with them. Though here's what happened, I went to do the next radio site, Alpha, and when I go there (Wearing a NCR uniform too mind you) they proceed to open fire on me. So I think to myself, now wait a minute, the troops back at boulder city didn't fire at me so why are they? So I re-load my game and try a different location, Camp forlorn hope where I got the quest from, they also begin shooting at me even though it says neutral on the map.

So is this a glitch and I'm screwed with working with the NCR? I'm just confused as to why the faction is randomly against me, but only in areas other than Boulder city.

Also it seems that don't become enemies right until I'm close enough to speak with them. They're amber (friendly) until I get close and then they get hostile.

Now after re-installing the game data it seems that they're not shooting at me anymore and I can actually talk to them... I also played around with equipping and un-equipping the NCR armor. I re-loaded my data to see if it's either the game data or the armor (Because if it's the game data I should be able to run up to them with the NCR armor and be fine), and the bug must have something to due with the armor as they will try and shoot at me if I run to them with the armor on without un-equipping and equipping it first...

Update.

I'm going to try a few things:

1.Going to NCR camp with NCR armor on initially without un-equipping and equipping and w/ weapon. (Failed)

2.Going to NCR camp with NCR armor on after equipping, un-equipping, dropping, and picking up/equip again and w/ weapon. (Failed)

3.Going to NCR camp with no armor on at all, equipping and un-equipping NCR armor w/ weapon, (Failed)

4.Going to NCR camp with no armor on at all, equipping and un-equipping NCR armor w/o weapon, (Failed)

5.Going to NCR camp with no armor on at all, equipping, un-equipping, and dropping NCR armor w/o weapon, (Failed)

6.Going to NCR camp with no armor on at all, equipping, un-equipping, and dropping NCR armor w/ weapon, (Failed)

7.Going to NCR camp with NCR armor on after equipping, un-equipping, and equipping again w/ weapon. (Failed, but was allowed to atleast get close to them before they decided to shoot...)

If anyone has any ideas of what to try... go ahead and post. I was only able to actually able to talk to the npc once after re-installing the game data and after that... I had all these failed tests.

Same here. Pretty much all the NCR Rangers are doing it to me, and I've left them unprovoked, having only EVER worn NCR armor, Trader Armor, or Leather Armor. All the Ranger stations, Ranger Ghost at Mojave Outpost, Ranger Andy at Novac, etc.

Making it pretty unplayable atm.

Also, as a side note, without the NCR armor they are all hostile even from a distance. With it, they seem to be friendly until you get within conversation range, then it get nasty.

Fix plz?

Yep, that's exactly what's happening to me as you can see from all the tests I did. I started a new file to test some other things out with the Reputation glitch. I decided to help the powder gangers out this time around and I had to go to prim to gather info for Eddie. In order to gain info from LT. Hayes I figured I had to put on NCR armor so I did AND once I did the Powder Gangers reputation with me disappeared from my pip-boy. So I'm going to assume that the reputation glitch has something to do with switching between "Faction" armors removing your reputation. Is this honestly something hard to fix...? So some of us can actually play the game...

Edit: Once I put my leather armor back on, the reputation came back to my pip-boy, but as neutral.. even though I did some work for them. Also, Even with the NCR armor on... Hayes did not give me the info even though I'm disguised as a NCR member with it on when he claims the information is "NCR Classified."

Update:

Upon playing more of my second file it seems your reputation really "Sticks" with whatever current armor you're wearing. I did some jobs for the powder gangers, including helping them fight against the NCR while wearing Leather Armor. Obviously this made me become "Vilified" with the NCR. So I decided to do another test.

After picking up all of the NCR armor from all of the NCR troops I wasted, repairing, and equipping it...the reputation for both the powder gangers and the NCR disappeared from my pip-boy (Except Goodsprings, a no uniform "Faction"), but came back as soon as I put the Leather Armor on. To test the reputation with the NCR I put the NCR armor on and went to the Mojave outpost to see if they'd shoot at me since I was "Vilified" while wearing the leather armor, and they did not... I could even talk to some of them. Though I still don't understand why I can't talk to NCR troops in my other file while wearing NCR armor when I'm neutral with them...

Update:

Did another test while doing the battle between the powder gangers and goodsprings while protecting ringo. Seeing as I was neutral with the powder gangers while wearing leather armor I figured I'd try and stay neutral by doing the quest while wearing NCR armor and killing the powder gangers that way.

Turns out that even though I did it while under the guise of NCR armor my rep with the gangers still dropped to shunned. At first I figured "All right it's only with the NCR armor on." This was not true, I switched back to the Leather armor and my rep with the gangers was shunned there as well.

Just for fun I tried putting on the NCR armor to see if the shunned rep was still there on that armor as well... and it's not, it disappeared. Seems like the reputation only sticks to faction-less armors.

Update:

Another interesting thing happened while playing on my second file. I was on my way to Nipton for a quest when I saw some NCR rangers shooting something, so I was like "Oh [censored] they're gonna shoot me.", but I figured I'd try to run and slip on some NCR armor to see if they didn't shoot me. Surprisingly, they didn't, however the main reason I'm posting this is because even though they didn't shoot me or anything, when I talked to one of the rangers she still knew I had a bad rep with them.

After doing some more talking with the Ranger, it seems they were sent to come after me to give me a warning, not to kill me. Something along the lines of "If you don't improve your reputation with the NCR in three days, we're going to come for you." This was all while I was wearing the NCR armor, was this intentional even though I was wearing NCR armor?

Small Update from the last post:

I completed the quest for Ranger ghost, obviously I had to put on the NCR armor to even get into the camp. It said I had gained fame with the NCR after completing the mission, and I did...while wearing the NCR armor. While wearing the NCR armor I was neutral with them after completing the quest. So I left and tried to put on my leather armor to see what it would say for my reputation with them (It was vilified before the quest), and I was still vilified with the NCR while wearing my leather armor...

So I figured I'd try to put the NCR armor back on to see if the reputation of neutral stayed with the NCR armor, and it had disappeared again. So now I'm confused, due to my testing earlier:

"Did another test while doing the battle between the powder gangers and goodsprings while protecting ringo. Seeing as I was neutral with the powder gangers while wearing leather armor I figured I'd try and stay neutral by doing the quest while wearing NCR armor and killing the powder gangers that way.

So apparently fame doesn't transfer from armor to armor, but infamy does?

I'm having the same problem although my status with the NCR is 'Accepted' and yet they still shoot at me no matter what amour I'm wearing! Stopping me from finishing 3 quests atm

That's what happened to my first file, which is why I started to do all of these tests on a second game file. When exactly did this happen to you? Around the same time as mine in the first post?

Update:

Now that I'm bored, I've actually thought of another possibility...though doubtful (Seems another test would be in order). I did "Steal" the NCR armor, maybe that's why the reputation isn't staying? Where as the leather armor I obtained via the quest in goodsprings... So maybe the stolen armor is glitched?

Edit: Also, is taking the armor off of a corpse considered stealing...apparently not as I dropped ranger patrol armor and confirmed that it wasn't stolen, yet when I put the armor on the reputations still disappeared, but I have yet to see if any reputations will "Stick" with this armor.

Update:

I picked up some combat armor from an NCR base, which is a faction-less armor, and guess what... I kept all of my reputations with the Factions. So at this point I'm just going to assume that the glitch has something to do with the Faction armors... So my word of advice is if you are going to do something that gives you fame or infamy with a faction. Do it while wearing Faction-less armor, or you're reputations will not count, or just get worse as infamy seems to carry with you even when wearing Faction armor, but not fame.

I've been wearing the same amour for a while now, probably close to 10 game hours (a very funky space suit) and if I wear it into a NCR base I'm mowed down.
Changing amour doesn't help though.

Funny thing about that, I went through Boulder City Showdown on my other game file. The character is female on my second game and male on the first game, but I didn't have any issues with the NCR on my second game after the Boulder City Showdown. Though there were some differences between the two files besides gender when I did this. For one on my Second account I wore Leather armor everywhere unless I had to get into somewhere where a faction didn't like me (Like the NCR at the time), so most of the time I managed to keep my fame. Where as my first file I constantly wore NCR armor and switched between only faction armor (Mainly NCR and Legion) when I needed to disguise myself.

So considering I switched between mainly only faction armor I guess my reputation didn't stick which is why the NCR tries to kill me, but that doesn't explain why the NCR soldiers fire on me only when I get close to them when I'm NCR armor, but when I wear nothing they attack me on site (Maybe because I'm a civilian to them and I'm not supposed to be on their base?). Either way I'll continue to test things and keep everyone updated on any ideas I come up with.

A funky space suit? An actual space suit or is it a radiation suit? Also why you're wearing said suit can you see your reputations with all of the factions?

I am liked by the NCR and Vilified by the Powder Gangers. Thats what i believe and that's what it says on my Pip-Boy.
But, when I go to NCR, they shoot me and their font is red.
When I go to the Powder Gangers, they don't shoot me and the font is green. Doesn't matter what gear I wear.
Wearing NCR gear keeps me neutral except with Lt. Haggerty at Helios One, who shoots me on site.
From what I remember, this all started after I started doing quests for the Brotherhood with Veronica.
