Hey peeps i was just wondering basically is the transition between the games (3,nv to 1,2 ) really big as people make out or can a huge fan of 3 and nv adapt to it and enjoy them ? As i have bought them but i anit convinced if i'll like them (mainly due to turn based gameplay ) it's not that i hate it i loved ff13 combat system and i have dabbled with ff7,8,9 and other turn based games but basically can a fan of the new fallouts enjoy ye old ones ?

Yeah, I bought 2 back when I was 14 and still waiting a few months for Fallout 3 to come out; it's still my favourite of the series.

Just remember that in F1/F2/Tactics taking Fast Shot has a serious penalty to it. No aimed shots possible. So no shooting for the head or anything like that.

Seriously, there are moments in those earlier games, especially in the dialogue, that you don't want to miss. I'm not gonna spoil it. They are very different mechanically, but the Fallout vibe you feel in F3 and NV comes from the older games, after all. :fallout:

Compared to F3 and NV, the mechanics of the old games are more, I don't know, laid back. Turn based means you can take your time to make a move, think things over. It's more like a strategy game, I guess. Clues are more subtle. Sometimes you have to stop working on a quest until later, give it up for awhile. Then you get to a point where you can go "oh, that's what that is for!" There are things you can't complete here if you've done this there. I hope I'm being sufficiently vague. The older games can be more unforgiving of mistakes, so in the immortal words of the writer of DM, you have to learn to "let go" of the completionist in you. I hope you can get into them.

Here, have a bottle of Gamma Gulp Beer. It's on me. :foodndrink:

There have been members here, that played FO1 & 2 after 3, and became disappointed with 3.

If you love the setting and factions and atmosphere, then sure.

Fallout 1 and 2 are certainly worth playing, not so much for continuity's sake, especially when it comes to Fallout 3, but rather because they're excellent RPG's. Be sure to apply the relevant patches and mods to make them playable on modern systems, though. In case of Fallout 2 I can highly recommend Killap's restoration patch, which adds a lot of cut content. You should be able to get the latest versions of these patches over at NMA.

All depends on what you like really.

I myself started Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics, but my discs broke when I finally decided to finish them around the time FO3 was announced (comp had a habit of eating discs and back then I didn't think of looking on eBay or Amazon.). :banghead:

Honestly though, I love all three, having finished FO1 (finally) yesterday after getting the collection last Thursday. Am moving on to FO2 and FOT right now since I never really finished them. If you like turn based games, go for it. You'll love it. If you don't, I still recommend giving them a try just to see the various history/dialouges/actions in the games.

And on that note, if you're likie me and enjoy making your own Fallout Universe (by that I mean taking your various playthroughs [through FO1, FO2, FOT, FO3, and FNV] and making everything that happens in them cannon {for your Universe}) then by all means, at least give them a try.
