To start the DLC? Depends. If you made a save that is outside of the final battle, then no. You can pick up and play where you left off. If the save is in the final battle, and you do not have another save for that character outside of the final battle, yes you will have to make another character.

Nope. That is why the big box of info pops up and says "This is the final battle. There is no going back after this. Are you sure you want to continue to the final battle?" and gives you the choice of running around or going to the final battle. :whisper:

If you really want to play the DLC with a leveled up character, just make a new one and look for a exp. glitch. Quite easy to do and there are quite a few of them.

You shouldn't have only one game save. It's a smart idea to have more than one and create a new save once in a while. especially since before the battle of the Hoover Dam they basically say you need to make sure you've done everything, that's basically saying that you should save right there if you want to play the DLCs....

sorry but if you have only one save and it's during the Battle of Hoover Dam not before, then you would have to start over.

"Expecting it to be like Fallout 3?"

You're aware that Fallout 3 was also close-ended, right? The first couple DLC didn't let us continue then, either. Wasn't until Broken Steel.
Give it a while.

Give it a while.

They said they weren't going to do a Broken Steel for New Vegas so if I were you I wouldn't hold my breath.
I just load a previous save so I don't care for a continuation DLC anyway.

That is incredibly disappointing. In a lot of ways I like New Vegas better than F3, and to give it a final ending seems to throw away the experience of being a waste explorer. It's like, I affect a huge change on this civilization but I don't get to see the changes in action except in a sub-par slideshow. Fail.

Also, many of Obsidian's staffers developed Fallout 2, which was also open ended. Don't get why they would toss out that formula.

Multiple endings, do you know how many time one need to create amounts of GB for that???

A DLC is not enought for that,

Fail?

I dont think so,

Fallout 2 was an easter egg after the ending, and the effects are the same, nothing changes, it all the same, Arroyo is still destroyed

Now, if you have a better Idea, I can listen, but if not, then dont say that was bad idea,

I really don't want a Broken Steel DLC. There's just no way it could be done right.

I see what you're saying, but I'm one of the few people who likes playing those games after the main plot arc has finished just for fun and exploration. As far as a better idea is concerned, I think Bethesda/Obsidian should observe the popular opinion of gamers over the last decade. That is to say, popular franchises such as GTA stay fresh because they have large immersive worlds that you can disappear into, with story arc just peppering the game experience or expanding the world. For a series like Fallout, which changed dramatically with F3, the ability to roam an open world indefinitely just seems better than capping it.

But there is a way for you to do this already, reload a previous save.
Just reload a previous save and the do what you haven't done yet and do the final quest again after you're sure you're done with that character.

Valid point, but jst having the option would be nice. I understand that it's asking a lot to code that much, apparently, but we're talking cash cow games which, hopefully after beta phasing the new engine with Skyrim, could be masterpieces with better programming. New Vegas's bugs and punctuated ending diminish what could have been game of the year, like its predecessor. But regardless, it's a great game and I can deal with the ending as is, but what if...

New Vegas got RPG of the year. Fallout 1 also had a punctuated ending and it had RPG of the year. Fallout 2 continued after the end, but there was no point. Still, I think Fallout 2 had RPG of the year.

Look, Fallout 1, 2, and NV were designed to have multiple playthroughs. Go back and start a new record, you might find something new.

.......what is the "Point of No Return" warning for people? it isn't just the NPC tells you you can't go back, but a system text box as well.

Yeah it's a pop-up that tells the player that it is the final quest and that they cannot go back.
People should be more patient and read pop-ups.
I mean, the first ones are tutorials, so of course we skip them.
But a pop up like this after 50 - 100 hours?
Those complaining need to pay more attention.
Course, might be easier for some.
Since I've played the old games and other games like it exstenevily(?) I have more patience while some newer gamers "might" not be as patient. (An example is the explanation of the Blood War in Planescape Torment, man that is a long dialogue...)
