My Fallout Experience

On an older 360, with no LIVE.

Having played FNV since I pre-ordered it when it first came out, I could not bring myself to stop playing. Having tried F03/BRINK recently, and returning them the same week due to lack of interest, FNV is still my fave game on my shelf, right next to Flashpoint: Red River, and Borderlands.

This summer, I have been getting rid of most of my games, trading them in for store credit, as Gamestop is the only place I buy my games from, in the process getting a Gamestop Powerup Rewards Pro membership, which I absolutely adore. I have gone from 23 to 6 games, giving me more shelf space.

Recent trips to gamestop have me selling FNV, just to have bought a newer, patched copy off the shelf, after reading about all the nice fixes to a game in which, let's all be frank, had you chest deep in bugs and glitches.

I still do not have the latest patch, and I might have found the way to check what patch version is on my game. Going into the settings menu, and under audio options, in the lower left hand corner of my screen is a number, just like a patch number would look (1.2.00.2 etc.) (not the actual number, just how it looks) I have checked this number to the patch listings in the Fallout Wiki, and the number indicates I don't even have the oldest patch, if the number is something else entirely, I do not know.

I would just love to have a nice patched copy of my favorite game, and my next trip to gamestop will have me taking my copy of Borderlands to trade-in, and then buy a newer patched Game Of The Year Edition, and trading in an extra controller, with a slightly broken B button (sticks).

So, to end this long thread, is there any way to check what patch I have, I really don't like wasting time/credit to get a game patched, only to have it not patched fully, or not at all.

Retailed games aren't generally patched like that. A new copy from the store won't have any of the patches, it'll still be the original release. This is true of almost any game these days.

The only ways to get a patched version are to get them via LIVE (Perhaps take your console to a friend who has a connection and create an account purely for patching games) or to wait for the GOTY edition (Or whatever they'll call the version that has the most recent patch and all the DLC)

You will get some exceptions for major issues that prevent a game being played or for content issues. For example: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was patched and rereleased at version 2.0 to remove Hot Coffee content and again a V3 release that disabled any modding on the Pc altogether.

Agh, all that trouble for nothing.... Well, this makes me want to get rid of NV knowing that the 500+ bugs are still rampant, the kind man behind the counter told me the same thing about patches.

Relating to Borderlands, if I trade in my current copy, and buy the GOTY Edition, do you think it will have any patches on it? Borderlands has had some ground breaking patches like NV.

One last thing, but I know nothing of this, doesn't Bethesda make new copies of NV and ship them world-wide, without patches? That just seems irresponsible, or maybe a marketing ploy, at this point, im just rambling, thank you for the info, although bad news, we can't get everything we want out of life sometimes.

A GOTY should contain the latest version of the game and thus patches, thats how its been for any GOTY edition I've played since their essentially done supporting the game at that point. The reason regular versions remain unpatched is due to consistency if you released a new version after every patch thered be 6 different versions of the game no retailer would stock that many and it would kill the demand for previous versions no one wants a copy with more bugs it would hurt pricing, and they'd have to retool for each edition it ain't cheap getting it all set up, its much easier to just stick with patching via updates essentially since the internet has become so available.
