Just thought that I'd reply to this thread to let you know that you're not alone in having this game kill your console. I had a very similar problem with this too. I had a phat ps3 80gb model which was killed off by this game. Now before people start shouting about how it's impossible for a game to kill consoles, let me start by saying that I too was of this opinion. When my old ps3 died after having played FNV for about 50 hours (in total) I was of course very open minded about it, having had the machine for about 2 years, I naturally thought that it had just given up the ghost. I was aware that the constant Hard Freezes, bugs, glitches and everything about this game (which I love btw) was not doing my Ps3 any favours at all, but surely the game couldn't be blamed right?
Wrong.
I went through all of the safe mode processes in a vain attempt at trying to rescue my console, and whilst it did some good in the short term, the console was screwed and had to be replaced. The Blu-Ray laser had gone, and my machine was done and dusted for all intents and purposes.
As such, I replaced the console with a new 320gb Slim model.
A close friend of mine, who is also an avid Fallout fan assured me that whilst his FNV was plagued with the usual problems, his console was ok.
Encouraged, I started to continue playing the game. I managed to get a lot further this time, but the game was still up to it's old tricks of hard freezing and all of the other myriad of technical problems. Now of course, my Ps3 is starting to play up again. I've only had it for six weeks! It's having huge problems reading Blu-Ray discs and loading games. I'm sorry to say that it can only be FNV that's causing these issues, as it's the only game that I've been playing over the past 6 weeks. To say that I'm peeved off is an understatement.
Please, Bethesda and Obsidian, for the love of all things good in this world, please, pretty please, with sugar on top, can you just patch this game so that it's even remotely safe to play? We all know that you're concentrating on the forthcoming Elder Scrolls V, and working on the DLC for New Vegas, but can you just stop for a second and think about what you are all doing to your reputation and your fan base? I feel that releasing this game in the condition that you have, and the fact that you're all so very lacklustre in fixing this game is horrific and disrespectful to your loyal fan base both new and old. Sort it out.
This game has, in effect cost me around £350.00 of my hard earned cash, and a near endless amount of ballache. I for one (and I know I'm not alone here) will not be purchasing any DLC for this game. It's shocking and appalling the way that you treat your customers. You shameless, bare-faced hucksters.
