Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:06 am

I just wanted to start a topic to see if you would be interested in uploading your files to Strategy Informer? We've recently opened a mini fansite for Fallout: New Vegas, which you can see here:

We would really appreciate it if you could upload any of your mods this section using our uploader here:
Please let me know if you have any questions or experience any issues with the upload form.

Who's enjoying the new patch?

I'm pretty sure advertising isn't allowed on these forums. Isn't Strategy Informer one of those sites infamous for stealing content?

Due to the popularity of Strategy Informer, some users upload files that don't belong to them, which can be very difficult to track or discover. We heavily rely on the public to report any files that could be stolen, and we'll then get them removed.

It's a little unfair to label the publication famous for stealing content.

.../more/ aggressive marketing?
Online communities and services tend to grow organically, a site shouting "Use this use this use this" over and over tends to have the opposite effect.

A one time announcement of the service can't hurt. I mean, content wise this post is pretty much the same as Dark0ne's announcement of New Vegas Nexus.

Still, I doubt there'll be much support, most people will stick with Nexus which is just the best site for this right now.

It's generally a good thing for modders to have their files on different services.

One of my old oblivion mods was chewed up and stolen without credit from there which soured me heavily on doing anything else for a long time. So yeah. I suppose that along with the 'planet' series of mod sites. At least with nexus if someone pisses on my stuff, and takes it I have some recourse.

Not that I expect it to go away, but for those unaware, the Nexus family of sites (originally "Source" like Oblivion Source etc) came about around a time when in a short time frame of a few months, basically every major mod site closed up shop or had crashes, losing some mods irrevocably.

I don't know anything about StrategyInformer, but I generally agree with throttlekitty. Putting all our modding eggs in one basket has the potential to seriously damage the mod scene if that one basket goes away.

How easy is it to update existing mods on StrategyInformer?

Our system allows you to update or upload new mods under your account. So if you released v1.1, you could update the same download to version 1.2, instead of having each version on the site. But you can do it either way if you want too.

They've also been sending PMs out asking/borderline demanding to host people's mods on their site, so...

Okay, I was going to be VERY surprised if it was Nexus. Don't get me wrong, I'm not implying that Strategy Informer is that type of site, I've just never heard of it before, where I've developed a strong sense of trust and loyalty to the Nexus sites.

People will upload mods without modder permission/steal content without permission/take credit for mods not their's/etc., which has occured on Nexus as well. The question is how vigilant the site operators are in policing that sort of violations.

I don't appreciate being PM'ed asking me to go upload my creations like that.

Between that and this thread, it strikes me as very spammy, and a breach of common netiquette.

I will not be using and will in fact be recommending against using Strategy Informer sites in the future.

(I would have been fine with one or the other, but still. PM'ing like that is generally not called for)
