Fallout: New Vegas out in 2 weeks!

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:09 pm

It's been about 2 years since Fallout 3 came out, and from there, I played the hell out of it for hours and wanted more. Then in mid-2009, Bethesda announced that not only the next installment to the Fallout franchise will be coming out in 2010, but that they won't be developing it. Development started in early 2009 by a development company named Obsidian Entertainment. For those who don't know already, Obsidian is a company that was put together by some of the original developers of the original Fallout games.

After waiting for almost a whole year and a half, Fallout: New Vegas has finished development. Here's what already has been confirmed so far:

  • The same engine used in Fallout 3 will be used for Fallout: New Vegas
  • Elements from earlier Fallout games will be incorporated into Fallout: New Vegas
  • New features such as companion perks & missions, the companion wheel, weapon modding, and hardcoe Mode will debut
  • The map for New Vegas is as big as the Capital Wasteland in Fallout 3
  • More emphasis on first-person shooting; Third-person camera has been revamped
  • The reputation system from earlier Fallout games returns
  • Enemies from Fallout 3 and earlier Fallout games return in Fallout: New Vegas
  • DLC expansions have been confirmed
  • Fallout: New Vegas will have a "definitive ending" like in Fallout 3
  • More emphasis on factions and decision making
  • You gain perks every 2 levels
  • You can play mini-games such as Blackjack, Poker, and Caravan
  • You can create your own types of ammo and healing medicines such as custom Stimpacs.
  • There is twice as more weapons in Fallout: New Vegas than in Fallout 3
  • There are more missions in Fallout: New Vegas than in Fallout 3
  • There are "mini-missions" that would branch off of main missions

At this point, what are your opinions on Fallout: New Vegas right now? Are you getting the game with any pre-order packs?

ya, the s-guide http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=77791. as far as i know the only dif is hardcover vs. softcover. since i usually end up covering these guides in tape and can get a 20% discount on the book (10% for buying w/game, 10 more for having an edge card) i figured i may as well just get it.

You're not a Fallout nerd until you've spent hours digging up info on the Vault or in the Fallout Bible.

POP TEST (try to answer without any sources):

1. What was the main plot of Fallout 1? What was the underlying plot?
Well in Fallout 2 it is shown in the Guardian Of Forever encounter that the Chosen One broke Vault 13's water chip. Therefore, The Vault Dweller is sent out into the Wastes to find a chip to replace the one his grandchild broke. After finally finding a water chip in Necropolis, the Overseer is not happy with your reports and send you out to destroy the super mutants. The Vault Dweller then proceeds to destroy the Master's plan and saves his Vault. But then becomes rejected form his Vault by his Overseer. He is sent out into the Wastes and later founded the village in the North known as Arroyo.
The underlying plot was the making of the NCR, the fate of the Hub, Junktown, Necropolis etc. I admit I don't really know what you're talking about when you say underlying plot so that's just my guess.

2. In what situation are cats?
From what I remember they are just plain extinct. Don't remember much about the subject.
3. What are the chances of us seeing a talking deathclaw in NV?
If I remember right from interviews and such there is a good chance we will see at least one. But part of me tells me that it was confirmed there was none. I wish I knew for sure.
4. Who was the leader of the NCR in Fallout 2, and name another NCR official you have repeated contact with.
In Fallout 1 we meet Aredesh's daughter Tandi (who refused to get together with me :P ) who later becomes the leader of the NCR after the Vault Dweller saves her from the Raiders. Do you mean a NCR official in Fallout 2 or NV? There was the suicidal Officer Jack in FO2 I don't know if he counts. I know we will be in good contact with Craig Boone in New Vegas.

5. Which NMA forum member appeared as an easter egg in Fallout Tactics?
killap? I don't know... I don't go on NMA and I didn't play Tactics much. Pretty much my biggest weakness if you ask me. I think I shall go play it more.

6. In what situation are the Midwestern BoS? How do the originals view them?
They are considered rogue from the real BoS and I think they let mutants join. (Sorry like I said I didn't play Tactics much)

7. What fictitious group is a parody of modern Scientology in Fallout?
Hubologists?

8. What was the name of the tribal follower in Fallout 2?
He be named Sulik

9. Explain the faction split of the Enclave in Fallout 3.
Define "Faction split

10. How was Megaton constructed?
It was constructed from old airplane parts from people who could not get into Vault 101

I answered all my question to the best of my ability without looking anything up. I promise. Well what was my score? :)

Edit: I can't get the color to work on questions 6-10 :sadvaultboy:

#1 I'll give you number one. I was hinting at the deal with the Master being the main plot and the waterchip being the underlying crisis. +10

#2 They are extinct. +10

#3 Talking deathclaws are also supposedly extinct. However since supposedly is the key word, I'll give you +3

#4 +9. By other NCR official I did mean Fallout 2. Your answer works well enough.

#5 Roshambo. +0

#6 They were betrayed by the Western Brotherhood because of their ideals. They give protection to tribes in exchange for troops from the tribes. +5

#7 Yup +10

#8 Yup +10

#9 Autumn and Eden. You can have a chance to answer it if you want. Until then +0

#10 Yup +10

Grade: 67. I'll just go with a 10-point scale so you pass :D Sorry for the random test. I'm just bored.

Ahh you mean the fact that Eden wanted to wipe out everything impure to start anew. Where Autumn wanted to just kill certain impure groups. I believe that's the answer?

Yay I passed! Now I may wear my invisible Fallout nerd badge. Or maybe my NCR shirt just works well enough.
