Fallout New Vegas Steam?

I am interested in getting Fallout - New Vegas for the PC, however, I heard that the game requires Steam in order to play. Is this true? If it is true, will there be or is there a PC release that is Steam-free?

FONV does require Steam for installation, and then I assume it's required to be running in off-line mode to play. Bethesda hasn't said anything about a non-Steam release.

Thanks! :) I wasn't sure if they made like a direct2drive version or some other alternate. I guess I'll just have to miss out on New Vegas! :(

I don't blame you - what a pain it is - Iwish I hadn't bothered buying it now either!

Steam is the alternate. It patches automatically and I imagine once they release DLC's for the pc, we'll get them through Steam. Too bad you don't want to play the game, if you're a Fallout fan, you're missing alot.

Steam needs hours for downloading if you haven't got a really fast internet connection.

Anyway you don't miss anything because the game is sill too bugged to be played.
