Hey guys, i have been thinking so many people adored the Fallout 3 game will Fallout: New Vegas have a complete different new story, just like Fallout 3 or will it relate to the Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 series? I already know that it does in some ways, but will it be major in the main story? As the creators have brought in some of the factions from the first two games. But my main point is, is that people who haven't played the first two (Fallout 1, Fallout 2) and possibly played Fallout 3 or even haven't played any Fallout games at all, will they still enjoy the storyline as if it was a complete different story and new game? (like Fallout 3)

I also know Obsidian have put in little Easter Eggs and things that do relate to the previous titles, but i just hope they haven't made anything from the previous Fallout games part of the main story in Fallout: New Vegas.

its an entirely new story. dont worry, you dont "need" to play any fallout game to enjoy this game. but people who played the first two might get a little more out of it. i am looking forward to see how the west has progressed so far

Fallout 2 was also a brand new story with only references to the first. You really didn't need to know more about the adventures of the Vault Dweller than the Chosen One did. But there were those occasions that you could enjoy more if you had played the original.
I expect New Vegas to be the same in this regard. F3 only made me sad when it referenced something from those games, or twisted it actively.

Ah, ok good. I am a beloved fan of Fallout 3 and have pretty much covered everything you can do ingame. (Sad i know :unsure: ) Its just i would play the first two games (Fallout 1 and Fallout 2) but i just can't bare the graphics, im so used to playing in a 3D world! :unsure2:

To be honest, if it makes an overt amount of ref to the previous two, it'd be annoying in my opinion. Let the whole Vault Dweller/Chosen One crap just remain in the past. They saved the world, we get it, let time move on. I'd rather New Vegas has maybe a handful of references and let New Vegas rely on its own bones, not on the tailcoats of the previous Fallouts.

Quality Game > Annoying fan service

I haven't played the first two, and enjoyed 3 perfectly fine, but NV is the closer setting to 1 and 2, so I don't know how well that translates for us relatively newcomers..

So far my interpretation is this: You don't HAVE to play Fallout and Fallout 2, but with the reprisal of previous Fallout factions, it helps to know at least the backdrops of Fallout and Fallout 2.

its really worth playing.

at first the graphics seemed like a major thing standing in my way of enjoying it. but overtime i started to get so engrossed in the story and game that i just sort of forgot about it. try to get past the graphical aspect, its worth it

You think skimming the wiki would be sufficient?

IMO, it "will" only be a few in-jokes and a few reoccurring characters that will make the us oldies go "ZOMG!!! Awesome Sause!" A latter example is Marcus, whom I personally will be very interested in reacquainting.

I'd say those are the only ones you really NEED to wiki, but Holy is an overly supportive Enclaver, so he doesnt need to read the wiki, since Im sure he's read it back and forth xD

Also, it would help to wiki the Brotherhood of Steel, since Lyons Detachment differs from how the West Coast BoS are.

It's gonna be a hard job, if you don't know what you should be looking for. You may find the major parts of the story, but some minor factions from NV like The Followers of the Apocalypse and Gun Runners would probably be left in the shadow.

I've read the Enclave one extensively as Colonel Martyr duly noted , as well as the BoS one.. Even N.C.R's.. I guess I just need to read up on the others. I know Vault Dweller was the main character in FO1 and Chosen One for FO2, but not much else.. or was it the other way round?

I may give it a shot :rolleyes: . Oooorrrrr perhaps just surf the web and find the right information to keep to date with Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 . And be ready to play Fallout: New Vegas! Either way it won't be nothing major to the story, so i may just leave it.

And It'd probably do some good to read what little is there on the Nightkin

Honestly, I think knowing about the Master would be more important for New Vegas than knowing about the Enclave. We don't really know how much of an Enclave presence will be in New Vegas due to conflicting information; meanwhile we know that remnants of the Master's army are running around and will more than likely be referencing him.

The graphics actually look a lot better if you get the high resolution patches from NMA.

Realllllllly! Heh I just ordered FO1 and 2 for "my son to play" wink wink nudge nudge.

I do think having played through both will add to the enjoyment of New Vegas.
