Although the official system requirements contain more idiotic foolishness, same as the Oblivion game's bad requirements did, they do clearly name AMD and nVIDIA as the only current producers of usable Dx9 graphics hardware. Prior to the existence of modern 3D hardware from those two companies, the transform and luighting functions were performed in software, and Intel didn't add the T&L to their chips until about three years ago, although even then, they didn't have drivers that were any good for the added function.

If you do not have modern graphics added on in your PC, and enabled in both the system setup, and in Windows itself, you cannot play.

Minimum System Requirements (corrected for Obsidian stupidity):

* Windows XP/Vista/Win7
* 1GB System RAM (XP)/ 2GB System RAM (Vista)
* 2.0 Ghz Dual Core processor
* Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 256MB RAM
(NVIDIA 6800 "GS" or better/ ATI X1300XT or better)
{Added my note here, the X1600 Pro & up really, and
avoid both the Geforce 6800 SE, and the 6800 XT}
* 10 GBs of free hard drive space

Recommended System Requirements:

* Windows XP/Vista/Win7
* Intel Core 2 Duo processor (or the equivalent AMD Phenom)
* 2 GB System RAM
* Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 512MB RAM
(NVIDIA 8800 series, ATI 3800 series)
* 10 GBs of free hard drive space

Post a dxdiag.
XP: Go to Start->run, type “dxdiag” and hit enter. Click the Save All Information button near the bottom right. This will save a Dxdiag.txt in C:\ by default. Then open the dxdiag.txt and copy/paste the information into your post.

VISTA/Windows 7: Go to Start->Search, type “dxdiag” and hit enter, click the Save All Information button near the bottom right. This will save a Dxdiag.txt in C:\ by default. Then open the dxdiag.txt and copy/paste the information into your post.

You haven't made the choice to offer information that might allow anyone to answer that question. The locals like something called DxDiag. I don't deal with more than the top 5% of it, ending with the first audio information block. Between the old CRT here, and the visual correction I need, the part there in DxDiag that goes margin to margin without formatting is nothing but a soup of letters and words when I think about pulling anything out of it.

There are some standard component summary items, and the system requirements label names most of those, and even more important is the service pack level and the drivers, So far, you have said nothing ablout any of that. Have you checked your PC with the Game-o-Meter at YouGamers?

With the particular Celeron that poor PC has, I don't think that much of any real upgrade wouldn't become bottlenecked. The particular Intel chip it has is particularly very bad. The video bus is almost certainly AGP . . (if in fact there is any video add-on slot at all).

I have to agree with Gorath. That system is quite dated and is not worth throwing money at.

Sorry OP, but it's either a new PC or the console version if you have one. You wouldn't like the game on that even with a new GPU. (More my opinion/assumption but I think it's valid. Most people don't like running games at 640x480 lowest possible detail.)

P.S.

Wow, was in another tab that long. Late to the party once again. :blush:
