Post » Tue Mar 08, 2011 9:43 pm

Hello,

Im having a problem with the V.A.T.S System. When i enter the V.A.T.S mode my character wont even begin to fire my weapon and it just wont go back to normal game play.

Im running:
AMD Phenom II Black Edition X6 1090T
Viper II DDR3 4GB
Asus Crosshair IV
Radeon HD 5750 1GB

Thank you for your time, and if this has been posted before my apologies

*Edit*

This never happend before when i was useing DDR2 Memory and my Asus K9A2 motherboard and my old AMD processor. I dont know how that would effect my game play but might as well give as much info as i can

Is it freezing completely, or just slow? How do you get out of it?

Have you tried just setting everything to Low? I'm not sure what exactly is going on in VATS (scripting or rendering) but there is a definite leap in processing. I sometimes get stuttering and a slow cursor in VATS

I know exactly what you are talking about. You see your character 3rd person, holding his weapon casually opposed to at aim, meanwhile the cinenatic and any enemy attack continues. Can't pause, can't pull up pip-boy, nothing.
this happened to me on only a few occasions throughout ~150+hrs. On those occassions I either died or my companion finished off the targeted enemy and the cinenatic ended and gameplay continued.
I will add, it only happened with the repeater or trail carbine (both loaded 1bullet at a time on reload).
Point is: you are not alone with this symptom, and You shouldn't stress this to be a hardware issue. From my experience with any FONV bugs/glitches I'd say this too falls under that category. To avoid/workaround I've tried to avoid using either of those two guns, And SAVE SAVE SAVE!! (I've seen other posts/threads about these type of guns but haven't read them- I'd guess they are similar in issue)
Either I wouldn't worry that you have a new hardware issue. Nice upgrade by the way!

Ah... this appears to fit with the reloading bug. They said they fixed it but I still have it with the Cowboy Repeater. I don't use it much in VATS but I'll play with it a while. Usually I can clear it by going into 3rd person and then back to first person.

It seems to hang at a point that locks up the keyboard.

Thank you everyone at least i know im not the only one.

Iv been useing the .357 magnum revolver when this occurred. I would enter the V.A.T.S Mode and just when i think my character is about to fire he gets cold feet. I started a new game so my companions are not with me so i end up loading from my last save/autosave.
Kind of a bummer but least im not the only one ;P.

I actually went into my steam properties for Fallout NV and "Verify Integrity of game cache" And "Defrag cache files" And it seems like it fixed it. But ill try the magnum out and go from there. ill post back :)

*Update*

Iv been useing the .357 for about 20 mins now and im out of ammo, but it seems like the defrag/Verify integrity fixted it...For me at least. I hope this helps people in the future

I think that bug is more location based, have u been able to go back to exact location where the bug affected you previously? I habitually defrag and verify game file each time before playing FONV, However I still experience some common bugs/glitches/crashes.

If I remember correctly the first time this occurred for me was near Helios and I had 2 companions with me at that point.
