Falskaar Needs QA Testers!

Post » Tue Jul 10, 2012 5:49 pm

Hey everyone,

It's about time that I get more testers for Falskaar, my current WIP for Skyrim. Don't know what Falskaar is? You can read about it in the WIP thread, http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1373717-trailerwip-falskaar-a-new-lands-mod/page__fromsearch__1. It's a huge project and I need a lot of people to comb over the newly added content to ensure it's bug free and polished. Now, there is currently a dialogue bug that prevents about 95% of dialogue lines from being spoken, meaning none of the quests work. So, I will not be accepting new testers yet, but the second that Bethesda patches the bug, I will. So what's this thread for you ask? I want you guys to start sending in your applications now! I'll keep them all stored away and then as soon as the bug is fixed I can go through them and contact those who are selected.

Currently deadline for applications: None - Once Beth announces a fix for the dialogue bug, or releases a patch I'll update this with a specific date.

What is a QA Tester?
A QA Tester, or Quality Assurance Tester, is there to test the product and ensure that it meets the high quality standards of todays gaming market. You will be required to test quests to ensure functionality and conformity, along with looking for artistic/graphical issues in newly designed exterior and interior play spaces. You are also there to provide input and suggestions on content and dungeons. However, you are not there to write quests or dialogue. That is not the job of the QA tester, and not what I need you for.

Requirements:
- Own a legal copy of Skyrim. If at any point during the testing process I get even the slightest hint that you are running a pirated version of the game, you will be immediately removed from all testing activities and related forums without warning.
- Be active on the forums. (Don't be a member for 6 years and have only 20 posts)
- Have 3+ hours a week to test the mod.
- Speak/type fluent english. If English isn't your first language that's okay, as long as you can type and express yourself intellegently. It's very important that you are clear and concise in your test reports.
- Hold yourself in a professional manner. If you spend your days on the forum trolling and calling people names, you wont be accepted for testing. If you somehow get in, you will prompty be removed.
- You must be willing to sign up to the private forum I have set up to run testing from. If you aren't okay with this, don't apply.

Responsibilities:
- Test and retest quests to ensure they are completable and that there are no loose ends.
- Search for things that were not considered when designing a quest, so that they may be accounted for or prevented.
- Test interior and exterior play spaces to look for clipping, lighting, and design issues.
- Test to ensure that the quests and enemies provide a good balance of challenge and reward.
- Grind repeatedly over all areas of the mod to ensure that they are polished to a professional level, and no error is missed.

How do I apply?
Simply fill the quoted below form below and send it to me in a private message titled, 'QA Tester Application'. Pay very close attention to small details and instruction. This form is how I will pick testers, and it contains many hidden tests to ensure I get quality people who will be helpful.

Username:
*Email:
Estimated Available Weekly Testing Time (Hrs):
Do you have experience creating mods?:
Do you have experience using mods?:
**Have you played any of my mods?:
Reason you want to QA test:

By filling out this form I agree not to release any form of picture, video or audio from this project. I may discuss the project openly, but may not redistribute any files or content from the mod.

*Any personal information provided to me by applicants will not be shared in any way, shape, or form. It’s for the credits or to make contacting you easier for me, personally.

** It's fine if you have not played my mods. I'm simply curious. This answer will not in any way affect your chances of being chosen for the testing process.

How do I know if I'm selected?
Once the dialogue bug is fixed, I'll post a deadline at the top of this thread. (Probably for a few days after the patch) I will then filter through all applications. If you are selected you will be contacted by me with additionals instructions on how to get set up and where to go. If you are not selected, you will not be contacted by me. I'll post when I'm done accepting people, so if you haven't been contacted by then, you'll know. In the past I've accepted the good ones as they applied, but this time I'm letting them slowly come in. Then I'm selecting testers from a giant batch at the end. If you aren't selected this time, I'll be opening for more testers even later, and you can reapply then.

I reserve the right to deny any application, or remove any accepted member from the quality assurance team at any time without warning.

I'm hoping that since the project is announced that plenty of you will apply! I'm not sure when I'll be accepting. It all depends on Bethesda. I look forward to hearing from all of you, and testing with some of you!

If you have any questions please ask! Hopefully I'll have a few of my current testers floating around the thread who can also help answer any questions you guys may have.

I'm already helping test this. I highly recommend signing up to test if you want to see this before it gets released. This is a whole new land and quest mod and is really, really well done.

This may sound like a silly question, but are you planning on doing testing in phases, as a lump with different tests, or what?

Hi, I'm Lead QA Tester on this project. :)

Testing is constant, with new versions released weekly - the amount of new content varies week to week :)

Alright, thanks for the info. I may see if I can jump in and lend a hand later on, once my projects kinda slow down, then.

Just wanted to satisfy some things going through (or is it thru? I just had to look "through" up in the dictionary the other day and now I got myself all confused >_>) my head first, is all. Of course, I can't lend a hand at the moment, but I might be able to in the future. :)
