"Famous" player characters

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 4:25 pm

Apologies if this has been done before, but have any of you ever created characters to look like someone you know, such as yourself or a friend or just someone famous? I was thinking about it last night when I created a new character, (only my second one after around 180 hours on my first one, (who's still going strong)). I didn't succeed in making her look like anything inparticular in the end.

But earlier I was reading a blog about character appearance, and I saw some pictures of a character created to look like a certain Internet "Actress", and I have to say the likeness was remarkable! Made me think I might actually give it another go and spend more time on it one day.

And then it got me to thinking, how about we have a little competition? Set a date, by which time entrants have to create a character who looks like someone famous. When everyone's submitted their screenshots, we all vote for the best.

Or is that just stupid?!

I'll get my coat.

I tried making a http://www.asherasarchive.com/xenafincloseup.jpg in Oblivion, but couldn't quite do it because there aren't any hairstyles in vanilla Oblivion with bangs. I'm going to try again in Skyrim someday.

I'll enter your contest if you make one, too, but only if I feel confident I've done a good job. I'm having a harder time with females in general in Skyrim, getting the results I want.

Cheers for the reply and PM. I'll have a bit more of a play myself, and perhaps post up a proper competition thread some time.

Alot of people have already done this for many famous actors as easly as the first month of release.

I personally love the Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) preset, and have a character of it that I occasionally play.

Edit: I like the idea of original creations being submitted for a contest though!

Thanks for that link, and it doesn't surprise me at all it's been done many times before. I was thinking of a new competition though, yes, primarily for noobs like me, but everyone's invited to submit. New creations from people, submit the entries here, and then at the end of June or something we'll have a vote for the best one.

I always enjoy Famous or Popular character builds. While I love creating original characters that are deep and complex, it's fun to let loose and use established lore to maneuver an already realized character through the world.

Case in point: I'm 25 hours into a playthrough as Conan. My three original characters have about 210 hours combined, but Conan has been the most fun, and my favorite, by far. I'm playing him as a Warrior and Thief, along the lines of Robert E. Howard's tales. For his appearance, I used a formula that someone made on a website to look like Arnold Schwarzenneger as Conan. The resemblance is uncanny! However, I'm reading Howard's tales, and now I wished that I had made him look like that Conan. The best part though is that Skyrim lends itself well to Howard's Conan, in that many aspects of both Conan's and Skyrim's lores are similar. When I'm reading the stories, there are times where I say to myself, "My Conan did that!"

Should you decide to create an ongoing Famous/Popular/Established Character Thread, I'll gladly take part. Perhaps we could also share our adventures there as well, as is done in the DID Thread. I would submit Conan, and try my hand at someone else as well.

Argonian scum: You've clearly taken it one (several) steps further, and not just created a physical likeness for your character. I'm thinking of just physical at the moment. You don't need to play the character and develop them for this competition, just create your likeness in the initial build screen, take a photo or video and then trash it.

Already I'm thinking of loads of possibilties. Every time I watch TV and see someone I think to myself, "Hmm, I wonder which race I would use as a base to try and create them in Skyrim."

Though of course, if I did manage to create someone very similar to a celebrity, close enough to make it worthy, I would probably go ahead and play that character. Kate Beckinsale perhaps...Vampire against the Lycans! Would have to get her a nice, tight, black leather outfit, a bit like the one worn by Vex perhaps! :)

My Nord character is called Buliwyf (from the 13th Warrior film) and my Orc character is called Hulk. He basically just smashes things...

Hey DonkeyBiscuits. As I started to build a Warrior last night I thought how great it would be to make him as tall and as massive as The Hulk. ;)

I modeled my Nord, Fragis after one of my best friends in the whole world. She's famous to me.

I usually try to make my characters look like ugly old me or something inspired from Heavy Metal Magazine like Simon Bisley's Melting Pot universe with his menacing orcish Tyler character. Back in the days of Tes 2 Daggerfall i made a few of my characters look like Michael Moorcock's Elric Of Melnibone dark hero. Then there was the Frankenstein looking orc i created in Tes 4 Oblivion visually inspired by a Warren EERIE magazine story on the monster.

With the colors done right, and to get the size correct, I used a Nord and created Michael Myers.

All he ever used was a single steel dagger...

Perhaps we should have a "Post a Picture of yourself and your self-portrait-character" competition as well then! :) I must admit, I did sort of start to make my first character a bit like me, and he acts a bit like me too, (so to speak), but he's got more scars and war-paint than I generally have. :D
