So far I like white run, but I have despite having 3 characters all with 40 hours of game play on each have only been to all, but 3 of the other towns so until I see them I cannot say yet.

Markarth and Solitude are my favorites.

Clean, fancy, epic feeling. Whiterun is nice, Riften is pretty run down, and Windhelm is run down but with stone instead of wood.

At first I was really pissed there was not "Imperial city" sized city. Then I played the game and realised only Imperial city is that large. I wish all cities where a bit larger but whatev.

My favorite is solitude, largest as far as I can tell with the most going on. Pretty cool environment outside town too.

My favorite city personally is Solitude. I've spent a lot of time there with my Imperial Dragonborn, he's settled down in Proudspire Manor for now.

My Dark Elf savage doesn't spend time in many cities but he usually goes to Windhelm to do his business.

My Nord has married Aela and as they are both apart of the circle, so they stay close to the job and are both living honest lives in Whiterun.

My Khajiit Thief lives nowhere but is affiliated with the Thieves Guild in Riften. He usually stays close to the Khajiit caravans. Hitting up every place on the way with all kinds of good loot.

It changes depending on the playthrough, but I always have a soft spot for Markarth and Riften.

Solitude, because it's Skyrim's equivalent of Skingrad; beautiful, shaped by the geographical features it was built upon, lacking the crime problems of some other cities, and its colors being red and black. I also love the view.

I have fallen in love with Markarth. It is my favorite city to appear in any of the last three Elder Scrolls games.

Markarth. Beautiful, many storage compartments, weapon racks, a manequin, enchanting and alchemy tables, extra beds, a nice dining room table... Its amazing. Solitude is just so dull and simple for my liking.

I have my house in Whiterun and usually do my Smithing and Enchanting there too, but I also consider Riften kind of my home because the Thieves' Guild is located there. I also have something for Markarth, sadly they are stupid Imperials and Thalmor pets.

Whiterun is nice and it's the first city you get to (on most playthroughs) and I also like Windhelm but now Solitude has really grown on me and it's my favorite. It has a nice setting and the castle reminds me of the imperial castles in Morrowind

Windhelm. It has that little something that makes it so special, you know?

Markarth. The waterfalls, the narrow street corners, the river; pretty much the most beautiful city in the game IMO.

I like them all but Solitude, really. Solitude has its charms but overall is just not my kind of place.

My first character was based in Windhelm. It has the windswept feel of a real medieval city, and I like the snowiness. The contrast with the warm windows on Candlehearth Hall and the northern lights is amazing. I would go up to the Talos shrine above the city and watch the show. Even though there are tensions, I like having the Dunmer and Argonians around too. And Niranye, the Altmer vendor. She and the Dunmer junk guy are two of my favorite NPCs.

Markarth is hard to navigate, but stunning. Sometime try to approach it from the northern mountains, so you see it from above. Amazingly beautiful.

My second character is based in Riften and I find it very charming in a shabby chic kind of way. The forest around it is nice. It's got an autumn feel to it. And my character's husband (Balimund) is there, so it really does feel like coming home to stop off at Honeyside and then go over to his smithery to work on stuff and trade.

I like Solitude, I hate being cold so Windhelm despite having the biggest house is too snowy

For settlements I like both Riverwood and Falkreath, the setting is very nice

Ive only had houses in Whiterun and Riften.. Where Whiterun is the winner in my opinion..

As for favorite city, i must say Solitude, or Whiterun..
Riften is a good third though, Markarth is way to wierd for me.. Impossible to find anything for me in that city :P

Falkreath would be great if it wasnt so small.
So Solitude is my favourite.

I am still so new to the game that I haven't left Whiterun Hold yet, so I have to say Whiterun. The advances in graphics still have me in awe, much the way that Oblivion had me in awe when comparing it to Morrowind. I can't wait to see more.

Whiterun is the city I like the most but the house I like the most is in Markath. Solitude is also quite nice but I have been there only three or four times so it's hard to say anything about it.
