Favorite gaming music?

Post » Tue Jul 12, 2011 12:47 am

Call me ADD or whatever, but I'm one of those people that likes to listen to music while gaming, and I was wondering: What types of music do you all like to listen to while gaming?

I'm a huge fan of classic rock as my avatar suggests, so pretty much anything from that era (in particular bands like Rush, AC/DC, or similar artists) works to help me focus in particularly tough portions of a game.

However, there are also some insanely talented artists I've found on Youtube. Occasionally during particularly tough boss fights I'll check out fan-made remixes of music from other games. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ha320edRi8 from Shadow of the Colossus has helped me through numerous boss fights.

Well, fellow gamers? What about you?

Well during my WoW time, I listened to a lot of metal while pvp'ing. I've never really played any other game besides WoW where I listened to something other then in-game music.

But currently I'm hooked on EVE Online's music. Especially http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPrHTFQhHEc and the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjw-v71vHgU

For games I actually listen mainly just to the ingame soundtrack.....however when playing an FPS I listen to Hip-Hop/Rap.

But for overclocking I have a special section of my music dedicated to that. Mainly Trance/House/Dubstep, it really gets me in the overclocking mood.

Metal, if I'm not listening to in-game music. Usually I just put it on itunes random.

Just the in-game music. Noises outside of the game just distract me. Assassin's Creed 2 has my favorite soundtrack.

Agreed....Morrowind being my favorite. Sometimes I listen to the soundtrack that came with the Collector's Edition...just because.
People talk about immersion in games. Listening to anything other than in game music would 'break' it for me.

The only game soundtrack I own is from Fallout 1. And I don't think I've ever actually listened to it.

In-game soundtrack. It'd be a crime not to listen to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKc-U80G9l0. Or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUpkaXA80tA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBE3c9X0BoA&feature=related, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znkK1W51qgg and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhkHqTTYUVM&feature=related. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GxFkG9Dceg too.

Only exception would be when I used to exhaust an MMO's soundtrack. Then I'd throw on some http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9ZGKALMMuc or something.

I never listen to music while gaming, except of course the game's music. Nothing breaks immersion like Dave Mustaine wailing about a nuclear bomb while you're lost in the catacombs beneath Sigil.

I don't usually listen to music with lyrics in it (at least not in a language I can understand) because I find it too distracting. Movie soundtracks and other instrumental music works for me, at the moment especially the soundtrack of Avatar and E.S. Posthumus's tracks. It's kind of like with writing; it doesn't have to be rock music for action scenes and ambient stuff for when you're just ambling around collecting herbs.

I haven't even played the game it's from, but I'm in love with the album.

On the rare occassion that I play a shooter I'll listen so some Zeppelin. Most of the time though, I just listen to the in-game music.

Borderlands has some of the most annoying sound effects and voice overs EVER, so thats a game that benefits highly from playing your own music. I played it for hours the other day to a soundtrack of Korpiklaani.
