Hello, I'm not the best at opening posts, but my favorite magic user is Raistlin Majere. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raistlin_Majere

I like him because he is cynical and sarcastic, while being intelligent and cunning.

Who is your favorite and why?

From anime, I have to go with Jade Curtiss, also known as the Necromancer, from Tales of the Abyss.

Oh, also Pharaun Mizzrym a dark elf from War of the Spider Queen novels, a Forgotten Realms series. (Who's name is similar to the boat from Count of Monte Cristo, though I don't think there is any relation about that.)

He's kind, gullible, clumsy and is uncertain of his own existence (in an interesting, totally not whiny/annoying way). He's also incredibly powerful and just a likeable character in general.

A sarcastic, cowardly womanizer that's just fun to have around. Useful in battle and is the main source of comic relief in the game. He also has other qualities that make him an intersting character, but that's a ways into spoiler territory.
