Favorite thing about the game

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 9:27 am

For me, it would be the immersion, very few games actually make me believe I am inhabiting that world, I mean, sure, the streamlined game mechanics mean some of the immersion is lost (regenerating health and magic, for one) but still, I have not had this feeling in a couple of years

the world of skyrim seems more complete and detailed and believeable than any other game world

true... but I would have to say Morrowind trumps it (lousy graphics aside) because you simply couldnt fast travel on a whim... besides the silt striders, if you wanted to get somewhere, you had better start walking. Fast travel pulls you away from where you are, it dosent emmerse you like you were in Morrowind.

The advances made in combat. More leaps like this one please, it feels so much less floaty than oblivion, landing blows feels a lot more tangible!

I like being able to use any skills I want, and increasing in skill by use of them, rather than by xp. Not so keen on the loss of the class system, I liked being able to define who my characters are by their choices of skills, even from lvl 1. Being on PC I can fix this by assigning 5 perks in the skills the character has a background in, though, so my second favourite thing is the console commands...

Im comparing Skyrim to games released in the past few years, not to other elder scrolls games, but yeah, Id agree, it lost a lot of immersion

My favorite thing about skyrim is the landscape. Love it.

I like that the world is so big and detailed that even though I have played for at least a hundred hours I still haven't even seen half of the world and every new location is intreasting.

But thats something the player can control how much it is used. So if you ruin emersion by fast traveling it is something you do to yourself.

The world for one, and the fact that it gives you so many ways to go, like you can join any of the guilds yet it still makes you feel limited to what your character can do, so like it just does not feel right to join every guild. it's cool

The size of the world and scope of the quests. The genius is letting you roam about in an open area (that is pretty big) and then constricting the level when you choose to go into an enclosure (dungeons). The open world feels free even though it isnt limitless yet. Going back to a rattrap game after this is difficult.

What I've loved most about any game, way back to the late 80s and the likes of Elite on the Amiga, is freedom to do what you want. Sure, there are storylines and aims in Skyrim, but you don't have to follow them. This is what brings me back to Skyrim over and over...sometimes I just want to wander about, collecting things, making things, forgetting about all the Quests.

I like turning the game on and losing myself for about 3 to 4 hours. I don't like that those 3 to 4 hours go by in a flash.

exploring. something that was absent in Oblivion (because of the randomly generated dungeons/fields) and one of the coolest things about Morrowind.

After almost 300 hours I'm still finding new things in the game. Of course the fact you're free to do almost anything you can think of.

Hard to choose...but i think it is the feel of movement and how good it looks when you character fights, runs, jumps, etc. Especially sneaking...just makes Ezio look like punk

Paarthurnax was the first thing to pop into my head. Intermixed in the dross that is Skyrim's dialog, Bethesda created one of the most interesting video game characters I can remember.

Markarth would be my second. Easily my favorite city in TES games.

The fact that I made a new game just to NOT do the main quest at all after going to Whiterun, I just want to find all the locations

Its a lot easier to do that then say Fallout in that respect, Fallout lets you go off and do whatever, but if you don't follow some sort of path, you will die from lack of inventory.

My favorite thing is the spinning attack power attack with two 1handed dual weilded weapons. This menuever in real life is called the Windmill and was pioneered by the 3 Stooges. Only comedians and children that are being held at arms length by a palm on their head utilize that move so I get a laugh whenever I see it. It's cute.

For a while I was making a new character it seemed like every week but now that i have a few that I stuck with for a while I think the thing I like doing the most is coming up with a new character and a back story for them.

Morrowind's graphics had been state of the art when it was released, no other game that I can think of could touch it. Skyrim on the other hand, while very pretty, has a lot of equally aesthetically pleasing competitors.

I like the atmosphere the best, at any given moment just stop and look at your still view. This is one of the few games that i've ever felt so pleased with the visuals of the world, even if it doesn't scale well at med distances and is a bit lacking at extremely close distances.
