Fear and Loathing in New Vegas! : Fallout: New Vegas

How awesome would it be to tear through New Vegas looking like Roal Duke, cigarette clenched in your teeth? How sweet would it be to, say, find a crashed convertible with two drug-addled ghouls inside?

Long story short: I would love to see Fear and Loathing and Hunter S. Thompson play some role, or at least receive a respectful nod, during the coarse of New Vegas. Who's with me?

It is somewhat impossible to replicate the brilliance of Hunter Thompson, even in homage. Case in point, The Venture Brothers. If there is a reference, I hope it is something subtle in the landscape, not an actual character.

If you can't understand what his books were doing, nor understand their historical context, then I guess a buxom caricature would be rife with lulz.

Hunter and it would be awesome to have a in game conversation with a character based on Thompson but its 50's style not 70's so i dont think that there will be

I sort of agree. Hunter S. Thompson is definitely beat generation inspired literature. Thompson, Kerouac, Ginsberg, all touch on similar themes even if Thompson isn't considered part of the beat generation.

Their writings are just as much about the serious issues of the day as they are about the absurdity of our existence.

But some people might feel that people who only laugh at the absurdity without anything deeper are missing the point and tarnishing the significance of the work.

Fear and Loathing is the only reason I got into Avenged Sevenfold (through the bat country music vid) and they're my favorite band now so I owe this movie a lot. Plus it was a [censored] amazing movie. Purely. [censored]. Amazing.

While I like fear & Loathing anyone seen where the buffalo roam (I think Hunter is played by Bill Murray) in many ways a better movie but that’s just opinion,

Saw it a long time ago. Both are very different, even though they share the same story. I give the edge to "Fear and Loathing" because of http://starophileimages2.free.fr/wallpapers/benicio_del_toro_004.jpg's performance in it. :trophy:

i know alotta people are just amused by the drug use and the antics but all his books had meaning

Besides like i said earlier how i dont think it quite fits in the more 50s style vegas but i would pleased as punch if there were some sorta reference

Well if anything it would be part of the wild wasteland trait. Fallout 2 had tons of pop references that weren't 50s related at all.
Wild Wasteland is supposed to be that sort of Fallout 2 sillyness, separated from the rest of the game, optional if you want it.

Seen it? I played two VHS (who here remembers VHS? hehehe) copies of it to death. And yes, that was Murray playing Thompson. And the late, great Peter Boyle as Lazlo. Not to mention Rene Auberjonois (y'know, doing voice work for New Vegas) as "Harris...from the Post."
