I Feel Like the Game is a Dungeon Crawler... do you?

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 8:13 am

Exactly what this game feels like. Dungeon crawl galore. The overworld feels empty and soulless. The few NPC's you run into are amateurly written and lifeless.

i'm beginning to feel the same way. great world for exploration and walking/fighting your way around in, but, sorely lacking depth, sophistication, innovation, and option.

Why didn't you just keep posting in your "Skyrim svcks" complaint thread that you started 50 minutes ago, instead of starting a new one?

because they axed that thread. i guess we can state all the positive on multiple threads but not the negative.

Well compare to Oblivion there are alot more going on in the landscape. Giants camp, mammoths walking around, witch camps, dragon walls, groves and alot more.

The problem lies with the quests. Almost evey single quest leads you to a dungen/cave. It gets repetetive.

I don't use fast travel all that much. I've explored pretty much the entire map. Fast travel actually helps hide the soulless world.

For me the experience is different.

The world feels full of life and randomness and the NPC are ok.

yes, this game is full of life and becomes a real world that we can lose ourselves in.

at the expense of, depth, sophistication, customization, innovation and advancement, and, most importantly, OPTIONS!

Well, I would not have put it so... succinctly, but use your other thread. Thanks.

Eh, on second thought I'll leave it open. But do note that you are just paraphrasing and regurgitating the same stuff.

It's not a dungeon crawler, but the game has some very fun dungeon crawls. I was astonished a couple times to realize I had carefully gone through a huge dungeon and it was 90 minutes since I started. Or finding a tough shorter dungeon, in the middle of nowhere, with a cool story going on like I did last night.

You do not like the game. Yet either you are still playing it and just trolling or you are not playing the game, in which case surely there is some other forum wherein you can post about games you do like.

It seems to have been relocated to Community Discussion, thus removing his platform of complaint here in Skyrim General.

Nope, as I pointed out above it was moved. Plus I must be imagining all those negativity threads here in this forum.

I dunno, I guess it depends on where you go. I love the Khajiit caravans and the traveling prisoners surounded by guards. I do miss the random guard fights in oblivion though, and there aren't as many interesting NPCs in the towns. It's good and bad. Whatever.

actually skyrim is an overly complex dungeon crawler, the world/NPCs/quests are/is shallow and it feels like a dungeon crawler, but it is complex for one (if it did not have some skills it would be the perfect crawler though)

There are plenty of negative threads in the forum. His other topic was moved to series discussion, because he wants to talk about how terrific the earlier games were in comparison.

Also, OP, i made your topic title less flame-bait-y for you. :)

less weapons and armor, useless skills and perks, lack of differentiation between skills, perks and talents, over/under powered skills, no spellmaking, broken economy system, i hope there's more to being a werewolf/vampire, redundant and useless perks, less options in menu, forced quests/quest items, no hardcoe mode, poor horse system, poor npc dialogue, Lydia get of the plucking way, lackluster companions and companion control/ability, inability to decorate home or manipulate game objects, guards don't actually guard, poor a.i. mechanics, less rping ability, on and on

I find the world to be actually overwhelming. There is so much to do that I seriously dont know when I will be able to find the time to do so. The caves are great and then the dragons surprise the [censored] out of me and then theres the wildlife and random bandit camps, npc, witches and mages and such. I am more of an adventurer so the caves and dungeons are amazing imo.

This game is only as good as the player behind the screen. Bad player, bad game.

The only thing I consider a little off is how looong some of the dungeons are. It feels like they just won't end, same from start to finish with little variation and they just drag on ...

I have some things I am disappointed in, like not being able to destroy the Thieves Guild after I took out the badass Dark Brotherhood. (and the Broken "Way of the Voice" quest line since last patch)... but overall it is fun to play. I am amazed when people say things like the OP, because that's what you fricken bought! duh! We aren't up to "reality generators" in programming yet...

I don't feel it is more of a dungeon crawler than MW or OB. I'll leave that for interpretation.

Thanks Leydenne for reopening my topic. I think too many quests are tied to dungeons. Probably because the world is lifeless.

Really can't agree with the OP, the game is what you make of it, I'm personally not that keen on dungeon crawling as I prefer travelling to different locations collecting flowers, meeting new people and picking up quests etc... This game is so huge and has so much to offer the gamer I find it odd when somebody says "The game is a dungeon crawler"..

As for the world being "lifeless" I'm not sure where he's coming from with that either, Skyrim is one of the most impressive, expansive, living and breathing game worlds I have ever experienced. Bethesda have made a truly incredible piece of software entertainment, just a pity that the version I'm playing (PS3) is currently suffering the various gameplay lag problems.
