A few newbie Skyrim questions

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 9:53 am

Hello, I recently got Skyrim, and I got to level 10 using only dual fire magic. That's basically the only tree I spent any skill points in, and I used almost every level up to get some more magicka. I decided that magic was really boring. Is it too late to change to full heavy armor and two-handed weapons? I really could probably get back in about ten hours, if I tried. What should I do? Is there a way to start a new game on the same account without losing that game?

Another question: If I do get into heavy armor and two-handed weapons, creating a new game, what talent trees should I use? What race should I use? I would also want a bit of archery skill.

There's another thing. I might get into studded armor and two one-handed weapons, as well as bows. What trees and what race should I use? I would probably be sneaking more.

1st, you can still actually use that character and play them off as a failed Mage who decided to take up the sword. You are only level 10 after all.

You can't make a new game on one you already have. You either make a new game entirely or overwrite it. You can still keep the save though, just save your new game in a different save slot.

2nd, Heavy Armor, 2 Handed Weapon, Smithing, Enchanting, Block possibly, Archery, and an Orc or Nord.

3rd, Dark Elf, Cat, or Wood Elf. All the Thief trees plus 1 Handed Weapon, Archery, Light Armor, and Alchemy at least.

You can roleplay a battle mage. I would say it's not too late to train heavy armor. My first character was a fire-based battle mage and it was a fun build. She used conjuration and destruction as well as war axe, heavy armor, and some smithing and enchanting.

Magic isn't boring, though. People just sometimes don't realize that you need to use multiple schools, especially since destruction damage doesn't scale. Illusion and Conjuration balance out the damage.

I'm actually thinking of making a character that is pure Warrior until level 25+ then when (if) they get injured in the fight, they have to start learning magic because they can't fight as well anymore.

Oh, one more question. How much stamina should I get for how much health if I go all heavy warrior? Should the ratio be magicka-0 health-1 stamina-2?

If you are going Heavy Armor Stamina won't be too big of an issue because you can eventually negate the consequences of having the Heavy Armor (it weighing a lot, the slow running speed) so I would either go Health 2 - Stamina 1 (to be a super tank) or just alternate.

If you are going with heavy armor get the steed stone, you get plus 100 carrying and also there is no heavy armor pentalty and armor will not weigh anything when equipted

I would do more health than stamina until you get to a level that you aren't dying as easily. As a pure heavy warrior you will take a lot of damage, especially against mages since they will be attacking you the entire time you are running toward them. Weighted down by heavy armor your sprint won't be a focus anyway. I built a warrior in my first game and I did only health until I started finding heavier armor and needed the points in my inventory to carry enough items, then I swithched to leveling my stamina. Then once I was good on carrying things I went back to increasing health.

Okay, I'll use that advice. I'll make a new save and create a warrior on that.
