A few questions on radiant quests

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 8:55 am

1. Do radiant quests force respawn. For example, if I were to do a quest to kill a bandit leader in Blind Cliff Cave, and I complete it. If I get the same radiant quest to kill a bandit leader in Blind Cliff Cave later on, will the bandits respawn there regardless of time. (ie. Do I have to wait 30 days for everyone to respawn to complete the quest, or does it force the respawn upon getting the quest)

2. Same question as above, but does it respawn the enemies in places where things normally wouldn't respawn. Blind Cliff cave is a non-respawning dungeon, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Blind_Cliff_Cave , so if I get another quest to kill a bandit leader there, am I screwed since it'd be impossible to kill the bandit leader if he doesn't exist?

Thanks!

That's actually a really good question, but unfortunately, I don't have an answer. It definitely makes me curious, though. Maybe one of the pseudo-Divines can pop in and give us some answers.

From what I understand you will not get a radiant quest to a location that you have cleared but there are so many locations that the radiant quest can be given at many locations. I wouldn't worry too much about it ruining your game. It is just one radiant quest where there may be hundreds. I was letting quest control how I played Skyrim and it was messing me up. Now I just go where ever I want and adventure into every cave and fort I pass bye.

1. No, you may get a quest along the same "lines" as this one, but it'll almost certainly be in a different location.

2. In certain areas, enemies do respawn, as to not leave everywhere you've previously explored boring and devoid of any actual replayability. I believe it takes around a week or two in-game (and yes, this includes areas that are marked as locations for radiant quests).

really, it works like the Daggerfall system, in which the "radiant" quests are calculated and then randomly generated based on what places you haven't yet been to.

For some reason I got six or seven quests at the same Forsworn fort. Find a book, kill the leader, get the Forgemaster's Fingers, rescue the Dibella girl, etc. Sometimes two at a time. Didn't have a problem, they respawned.

I had just the opposite problem, I started my adventuring career wandering from dungeon to dungeon, clearing everything as I went. Once I cleared 4 holds, I started looking for quests, and a lot of them came up broken (i.e. I would be told to kill a leader and there would be no one there, so no way to finish the quest). I ended up with quite a few un-completable objectives, and several broken side quests and faction quests (mostly centered around quest items that I found while exploring). Since that character, I've been careful not to go to any quest locations until actually receiving the quest.

As far as the OP is concerned, I've had situations where I would repeatedly be sent to the same location (Treva's Watch, anyone? [censored] that place...) and everyone respawned fine without having to wait any length of time. But as I said above, I've had certain locations never respawn at all. Overall my opinion of the radiant system is very poor.

huh, this isn't suppose to happen, I'm sure (as Bethesda themselves have said the radiant quest system tracks your progress and appropriates itself at such). I myself for instance, have never come across someone pointing me towards a quest at a location I've already visited.

but since there are countless variables that go into play when you're referring to a system that tries to detect where you have or haven't been to (what if you just walked by the area, and discovered it, but didn't go in?), I suppose it's a given.

edit: and you have to take into mind that there are those select few, hardcoe enthusiasts who've been to literally every location in Skyrim, which would inevitably result in the the revisiting of an area you've already been to.

Yeah, unless it's specific to Thieves', DB or Companions, chance is that character has been everywhere at least once.

My first character explored everything and cleared every clearable place in the game. I've literally played the game to death. But yeah I got radiants in the same locations dozens of times.

And a radiant in a cleared location that doesnt respawn does cause the cave to respawn. Pretty sure anyway.
