A Few Things on Hammerfell and Redguards...

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 6:33 am

I'm starting a Redguard but I'm curious. They have a bonus in destruction magic (which definitely wants me to make him a Spellsword), but for RP reasons...don't Redguards disprove of magic? Both The Crown and the Forebears are said do persecute magic users...so why do they have a bonus in magic?

Also: Anyone else think that Hammerfell will be the next game (or at least next DLC) considering it's the only place with a real standing against the Thalmor? I just have this feeling that's where the stories headed.

They treaty'd up quite a few years ago.

Hammerfall would be a lovely setting for TESVI

Hammerfell would be cool. But if anything they should explore a continent other than Tamriel. I know Yokuda sank at some point in redguard history, accordingly they migrated to Hammerfell. But it would be nice if Bethesda somehow managed some clever little plot twist that allowed for the continent to resurface; the next game could span Yokuda's resettlement and maybe like a redguard civil war.

In relation to the bonus in magic I'm not entirely sure why it's like that. Maybe UESP can help?

Yeah, it makes no sense. Redguards are superstitious about magic, and hate it. Especially conjuration and illusion. Same with Imperials, not sure why they gave them Magic abilities. I guess to make it more newb friendly so people can make JOATs easier.

Probably. It would make it easier for a JOAT redguard also because they have bonus to archery.

Yokuda would be awesome...but also a little weird if it suddenly resurfaced.

Yokuda was mostly destroyed, but there's still some http://www.imperial-library.info/content/west-tamriel-official left and people living there.

I thought Redguards were only superstitious of magic regarding tricks and summoning (Alteration, Conjuration, and Illusion)
If they also distrust Destruction, then it was probably added to make Redguard players more rounded. BS move as Redguards are WARRIORS, but I don't play Redguard so I don't particularly care; I'll RP it out of my mind

I'd be way into some Hammerfell (or some near by island) DLC. A warm weather North African feel would be a perfect counter/addition for Skyrim.

I wouldn't count on seeing Hammerfell in the next game. They already went there in Daggerfall and Redguard.

Maybe Hammerfell accepts magic a bit more because they had to in order to beat back the Thalmor.

Because of that, they may be a bit more lenient to those who used magic against the Thalmor. They were alone against them, and they did fight them to a standstill, right?

The next game should be an all-tamriel experience. I know how ridiculous and far-fetched that sounds, but it would be the best way to go, considering the remaining regions of Tamriel are somewhat less popular than the ones already explored.

The Redguard in the Cheydinhal Mages' Guild, if I recall, talked about how they didn't like the more 'evil' magics (Illusion [tampering with the minds' of others], Conjuration [summoning Daedra], and things like that), but were generally tolerant of others. He was an Alteration Expert, with the strongest Shield spell for sale in the game, if I remember right. He also had some Destruction spells.

So if he's an accurate representation of a fairly large portion of Redguards, and maybe an extreme, it still puts magic in a MODERATELY accepted light. It's probably done nothing but increase since all of Hammerfall united together under the cause of kicking the damned gold-skins out of their home.

@Ice^3 They went to the island not the country, at least in Redguard. And in Daggerfall it was only the border.

@Torvus I'm pretty sure that's not true though. I don't think the majority of fans asked for Cyrodil or Skyrim.

The series has already been to Hammerfell. So the next game should be somewhere we haven't been yet. (BlackMarsh, Summerset isle or Elsweyr)

I hope we get Valenwood or Elsweyr in the next game.

Hopefully both. Imagine THAT soundtrack.

That's why you came to Skyrim. They kicked you out of Hammerfell ;)

I definitely have a feeling it'll be either Elsweyr or Hammerfall next. Either way, we get deserts - a welcome change of pace.

Yeah, Redguards have no problem against magic in general, they just don't like things like Necromancy, summoning Daedra (or bound weapons/armor) or spells that mess with the minds of mortals, such as Illusion spells. Other than that, they have no problems with it. As a matter of fact, magic has always been a very valuable part of Yokudan culture. Take, for example, Prince A'tor, and how he was preserved, and how his soul was kept safe in the special soul gem. Plus, it was a Yokudan woman who extracted it.

Of course, all of that aside, you'll still find plenty of Redguard Necromancers, Conjurers, and Illusionists, it's just something typically frowned on by the society of Hammerfell.

Ah, maybe illusion is considered eastern magic? I just read the UESP and it says they don't tolerate "eastern magic".
