Fighting On Horseback

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 11:49 am

I was wondering if would be possible to allow fighting on horseback in a later download.

It is really annoying when you get ambushed by a bandit and then I get annihilated as soon as I get off my horse it really slows down my experience.

Also is it possible to be able to roadkill an enemy by running over them with a horse?

Horse controls in this game are awful. I don't want to ride on them to begin with, let alone try to fight while riding one.

They can't even walk backwards. Wtf?

I never actuly rode a horse to any where. They arnt that fast, leave you open to anyone out there to kill you, and feels pathetic. Fighting on horseback would make em usable and different looking horses wouldnt hurt as of right now theres only one horse model with different colors which is a huge shame for something so easy to be left that way.

Then they shouldnt have introducex horses to begin with as you can fast travel or just run around and kill then waiting 5 days to slowly get off the stupidly made horse.

The horse has some turded controls and i guess the horses never walked backwards in their lifetimes.

If I remember correctly, he said that it would make the game too easy, or something along the line(correct me if I'm wrong). This is just nonsense and not a viable reason (if even true). Then why would they leave (make) such powerful game mechanics as smithing, enchanting, alchemy? This is silly, if the player wants to be some OP god that fights from horseback, why not leave it there?
I don't think it was ever implemented.
I'm not mad, and this doesn't brake my gaming experience. I enjoy Skyrim immensely, and have from the first day. I'm just sad, as a horse owner in real life, that the horses in-game are so limited. They are a downgrade from Oblivion....I loved to run around on my horse in Oblivion (at night) carrying a torch...now the torch doesn't even appear in your hand.

"Too easy" can't have been the reason. For one you can fast travel, avoiding outdoor fights entirely. For another you spend 80% of this game in dungeons away from your horse.

Horses are awful in this game, I just walk everywhere. I would've liked mounted combat though, there have been mods for it in Oblivion. But overall vanilla horses are not worth it with no way to fight except get off, poor handling, and it seems to me that they aren't even that fast.

having my horse tank dragons and giants is my only use for them at this point, although I rarely use them them for that anyway...
but yeah if i was able to ride by and behead some fool from atop my trusty steed then maybe I'd use it but I doubt it still cuz the controls for horses kinda svcks

It'd be cool to see firing from horseback as a perk you earn. It probably unbalanced the game and made it super easy to kill. But I wouldn't mind seeing an archery perk for it.

Definitely need mounted combat. If Daggerfall could have it, so could Skyrim. Mods will probably add it.

I don't dismount - you can outrun most things, except for dragons.

IMO horses are there for people who want to intentionally avoid fast travel.

Gives them a means of travel

There have been instances where firing my bow from horseback would have been really handy. However, I understand how the added technical complications of adding the mechanic to such a massive game would be unpractical. If you want some great horseback combat, though, check out Shadow of the Colossus.

Woud be the only thing that would make horses worthwhile. As it is, what's the point of horses? I can walk just as easily - it's not like my character gets tired.

I'm pretty sure my character runs faster than the horse.

Horseback combat would be a great way to reintroduce spears, and I can think of several places where it would have fit well, such as (DB spoilers)

Spoiler
Racing the Penitus Oculatus back to the sanctuary after discovering that you've been betrayed.

I use horses to climb mountains; they are not useless. pathetically weak, yes, considering someone is slamming a mace into them while the same thing to you only makes you go "Gah!"

fighting on horseback wouldn't hurt the game I don't think, but I personally prefer fighing on foot
