Fighting Underwater?!

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 8:56 pm

Does anyone think that underwater gameplay in Skyrim has been completely removed? I remember in Oblivion, where you had quests that took you underwater and you were able to fight underwater too. But they completely removed any element of that in Skyrim. How lame is that? Please bring that back! There are obviously enemies you can fight underwater like this piranha type fish, so why can't I combat them at all? This feels backwards. Please make it so that I can at least fight back and not have to run for my life every time I see one of those fish.

Underwater combat is too "spreadsheety".

It's a bit cold there, too.

My companion insists on swimming around trying to kill fish whenever we're near water. Trouble is, when she's swimming she can't engage in combat. So she just swims around like a mentalist and I have to track back and unload dozens of arrows into the water to try and unlock her.

Not ideal is it...

Swords would be the only sensible thing to be able to swing under water, maybe axes to, but it would have to be a pretty straight swing.

Jabs and stabs actually would be the only efficient things really...guess that explains why there are only two water creatures in the entire game...

Besides, enemies seem to breathe underwater forever. If you have a companion just say good bye and move on, because she will stay there underwater forever as well.

In Oblivion just bring a dagger and kill fish and stuff. It should count as a bug (not a "feature") in Skyrim.

There's no longer a reason to. The 2 slaughterfish in the game would rather you get their scales by robbing alchemy shops.

I've never actually tried fighting underwater (or anywhere else for that matter (?))
but I'm pretty sure if you got deep enough into the water you'd have trouble just floating or diving with weapons in your hands

You can use the destruction spell cloaks to kill Slaughterfish that try to mess with you.

But yeah, despite realism I'd rather like to stab the little bastards.

Daggers would be the way to go.

Because physics wouldn't allow it be be very effective. If you swung a sword underwater, your sword would go practically nowhere slowly, and you would be tossed and turned by the momentum backfiring. Also I don't see Magic working under water, and Arrows would loose momentum extremely fast under water and not be effective what so ever.

This. Cloaks work wonders. My new character, a 2-handed tank, doesn't stand a chance though.

I'm pretty sure harpoon guns work underwater which are similar to bows, no? At least at short range these should work just fine.

You can dive while wearing Daedric Armor. Either the law of Newton does not work for weapons in Skyrim or it's just my character's strong body.

Frederick Barbarossa died because he jumped into a body of water while wearing plate armor, just saying.

I am a certified Scuba Diver and a surfer. Daggers would work just fine. So would...spears! Swords could kind of be used if you stabbed with them but I am just theorizing there off of various instruments I have messed with while underwater. Of course floating in plate armor is kind of ridiculous in of itself.

Bows would be completely ineffective unless at very close range and once a bows string gets wet it is fairly useless anyways. I f we get really technical(which we should not) 75% of the things in the game cannot be done irl lol.
